Okay, first off, don't become so scared of it, because while it could possibly do everything you said ... As some research suggests it, you can't really count on what nutritionists tell you nowadays, because everyone's freaking out over one thing that's supposed to be bad for you one day and then the next day, new research suggests that the old research may have been wrong. Continuing onward, high fructose corn syrup refers to a group of corn syrups which have undergone enzymatic processing in order to increase their fructose content and are then mixed with pure corn syrup (100% glucose) to reach their final form. The typical types of HFCS are: HFCS 90 (most commonly used in baked goods) which is approximately 90% fructose and 10% glucose; HFCS 55 (most commonly used in soft drinks) which is approximately 55% fructose and 45% glucose; and HFCS 42 (most commonly used in sports drinks) which is approximately 42% fructose and 58% glucose.
Basically, it is a replacement product for sugar, and the reason why you find it everywhere is because it is cheaper than sugar, and easy to obtain be cause corn is a common crop.
Because it is a sweetener, it naturally isn't necessarily the healthiest thing for you, so I'd suggest that you limit your intake (along with sugar and some artificial sweeteners), but you don't have to go crazy and completely swear off from it, because it is a very difficult product to avoid.

High Fructose COrn Syrup is corn syrup with a lot of fructose.
Fructose is basically sugar.
It replaces table sugar in some foods and pop, but could cause diabetes.

This indicates high natural sugar level (fructose which is naturally found in fruits) and process sugar (corn syrup). Sugar is not good for you and process sugar is 3 times worse. People who eat too much sugar may lead to type 2 diabetes.

Your first three answers are "dead-on" correct. I can also add that, as a former railroad man, that stuff really stinks when it's all loaded into one of those black tank cars. Many people don't realize that, as they sit at a railroad crossing watching the train go by, a lot of those black tank cars are FULL of High Fructose Corn Syrup, and I can tell you that when we pick it up at the rail yard of those companies, the stink is enough to nauseate even the strongest stomachs. And it's headed for the cold drink companies and candy companies that make all the "refreshments" that you consume. You'd think twice about consuming said "refreshments" after you smelled that smell of a whole railroad tank car of that stuff. God Bless you.

HFCS made from cornstarch, is much sweeter than regular sugar, or sucrose and it's cheaper to produce, and extends shelf life and prevents freezer burn. Therefore the food industry loves it.
We digest HFCS differently than sugar. It is processed in the liver, rather than the stomach. This increases the liver's release of fat cells (triglycerides)Hi blood triglycerides levels increase the risk for heart disease. It also is thought to release leptin , which is a hormone that tells the body when it is full. So, its harder to be satisfied from eating foods with hi HFCS.
It is in so many foods and all sodas, so we consume so much of it.So, we gain wgt and diabetes risk is high.
Also most often the corn that is used to make it, is genetically modified, also GMO corn is often exposed to more herbicides than regular crops. I hope this answers some of your questions.

It is sugar in a different form. It does the same thing as plain table sugar. Sugar is a processed food, and the body isn't designed to use processed foods AND maintain its health.

Fructose is nothing more than fruit sugar, which corn is high in. And who says its bad for you, and do you really trust their advice? You shouldn't.
