My sister had an ice cream themed party for my niece's birthday. I thought it was great.
She bought a cute ice cream bowl set and set out different toppings and let the kids help make their own sundaes. They boys and girls all loved it. All kids love ice cream! She rented the gymnasium at her church which was great because some kids played basketball while others did other games.
Perhaps you could get a karaoke game for your video game system and let the girls take turns singing while the boys play ball or something.
Best wishes! Happy birthday to your baby girl!

Have a sort of sporty type party. Whatever sports she likes, then that's what kind of decorations you should get. That way you can cover 2 grounds at once, the sports and the cheerleading. And any party is great with a big cake and a lot of candy. Sorry i don't have more ideas. Happy birthday to your little girl!!

Play it safe take her to some place like Chucky Cheese, bowling, swimming, Or just have the party at home with no real theme. just balloons and happy birthday banners and plates invite all her friends and let them play.
If you want a theme go for the sport she is doing now or will be coming up. you could also just go Bratz there isn't to many 8 yr olds out there that aren't crazy over them

That's so my DD too. We ended up doing a party at the monster golf (indoor putt putt) here. But I looked into skating, bowling and pools too. Around here she was too small for lazer tag.
But if you want to do something at home could she be up for a medieval party? My older DD had one in 1st grade and loved it. We painted shield shaped cardboard pieces with shield themes and used them for decorations and then gave them as game prizes. We did crowns for the boys and cone hats for the girls. I cut the crown shapes and 1/2 circles for the cones from poster board. Then we used tissue paper (1 piece in the top of the cone) and stickers to decorate them. The kids did a banner on a big piece of paper while we were waiting for everyone to get there. We played medieval games like blind mans bluff. We also played pin the flame to the dragon (homemade). The crowning touch was my BIL who brought his SCA armor and let the kids play whack a knight. But we had bananas, Shields and protective aprons to play banana jousting if he hadn't been able to come.
Familyfun.com has some really cool castle cakes and may even have the dragon cake we used.

maybe a "mini-olympics" party? Invitation could be a flyer: Come one, Come all to the (insert last name) backyard olympics. Come and let yourself shine in the (list of events).then list the date, time and address.. you could both have fun planning and setting up maybe 4 or 5 different events around the yard...be creative!!! ..a variation of 100 meter dash, long jump, discus throw(ball throw or kick the shoe or beanbag toss) and an obstacle course(under things over things, hula hoop, skipping rope, bike around something etc), dance-a-thon, a treasure hunt, ice cream sundae making contest....the possibilities are endless could even have a game of soccer or something included whatever interests her ...this could be a lot of fun with a little imagination....you could have tables set up around the yard with refreshments between events etc, ribbons for 1st second and third place maybe a mini trophy? Maybe even create ahead of time a "newspaper" with your daughter using a bristol board and the computer.....Let her come up with the name of the Newspaper.......choose a fancy font.....take some pics with digital cam or even cell phone came that you can put on pc write away so they can be printed up and included in the newspaper..write up articles leaving out the names until after the events are done.....and have fun with the articles...announcing winners, praising the chef sponsor of the whole event...a lot could be done ahead of time and glued onto the bristol board ....maybe mini interviews throughout the event that could be included....some serious some funny....and what can't be glued on until the end could be started....like the interview questions printed up with space to type out the answers...maybe 20 questions in total...and interview from each guest as well as your daughter be included in paper, with each interview showing response to 2 questions...that way you are not spending the whole party asking questions just a couple for each kid and at different intervals...some get interview before it all begins some during the events, some after..you could then print them out and glue them on the bristol board so everyone gets to take home a newspaper of the day...it would make a great souvenir of a really fun day

Here in St. Louis we have a big foot truck place that makes them, sells items, and throws parties. Another idea-- check around your gymnasiums--they have gymnastic parties . We went to a gymnastic party and it was for a boy. My boy had fun! They even had a foam pit and spring floor. About the same price as chuck-e-cheese. Many cities have a couple of places that offer tea parties, but if she invites boys they won't come. Pool party at the YMCA!

You might try baking off some small cakes and letting each of the children decorate them themselves. Just fill a few bags with different colour icings (3 colours would work) and let them ice their little cakes and then decorate. Even boys love doing this. I let the kids take home their cake instead of the regular grab bags. They had a such a great time that I was asked if we could do it again the following year. We did!

Something like lasertag or glow in the dark mini golf might be fun for her and her friends. Renting out the movie theater is possible in some theaters-that could be fun. They'll show a currently playing kids movie and give you a deal on the kiddie combos with popcorn, etc. Have a great party!

Half-n-Half. Do something both guys & gals are gonna like. Give trucks for boy party flavors and dolls for girls, maybe cheerleading dolls. Demin blue tablecloths-I don't know! Be creative and you'll come up with something.

I know alot of 8 year old girls just like that. My daughter is like that too. If you are located in a warmer climate..have a field day party with relay races etc. If not, how about a bowling or ice skating party?
