I'm considering getting a tattoo with my son's name. I would like to get something small and I'm not even sure where I want it. I also would like to get something that could be added onto in case I have more children. A concern is getting my son's name and it looks like a boyfriend-husband's name, I do not want it to look like that. Any suggestions?

1st of all please don't tell me not to get it...I will eventually. I already have tattoos and I don't know if I'll enjoy them when I'm 80 but I will have them regardless. Thank you

A really neat idea I've heard is getting a family tree type-tattoo. It's like you put your name and your husband's name as the base and then have your children as the branches. Or a better idea, try a family tree vine. That way, you can keep adding names if you have more kids.

Is it just the first name that looks the same, or first & middle? 'Jonathan' might be the same, but 'Jonathan William' seems less likely to be similar (as an example).
With that many characters it's bound to be on the not-small side. If you don't choose what another poster suggested (a picture or symbol), you might want to keep it to just fancily drawn initials - a calligraphic 'JW' using the above example.

some things i have seen other people do is making the letters look like wooden letter block. i have seen people get it done so it looks like the name is made of lego's. put it on a tricycle or big wheel. use his favorite toy and have his name put on it. but i think you should discuss it with him. i am serious even if he is just a band new baby you will find your inspiration by spending time with him. good luck let us know what you decide.

My best friend just got the cutest tattoo for her kids, she got a stick person mommy and two stick kids with their names next to their stick figures, sounds dumb but it turned out beautiful. She's only 27 so I asked her what she would do if she had more kids or got married. She said she would just add them on underneath and write extended family :)

you should get in on your shoulder so you can cover it up when you dress classy and who cares what others think outside the world ive spent my whole life hiding and being conserned about that but now its time to come out of my shell. Life is short enjoy it, you should only care what the ones close to you think.

i wouldn't get the tatoo until i am positively sure i know where i want it placed. don't worry about it appearing to be your partners name, if anyone comments on it just say, "thats my son". people who know u will know its your son's name". as for what to get, ask the tatoo artist and see what he can come up with than think about it for a week. good luck!

i'm not a huge fan of name tattoos, even for your kids. they just kindof look off to me, but that's just my opinion. you could always get something to remind you of your son. like a drawing he did (such a cute and sentimental idea) or something else that has to do with your son, but not the name. just a suggestion.

Don't get his name, but something that represents him(ie favorite stuffed animal, soccer ball) Get it on your ankle. You can add another if you have more children and connect it like a charm bracelet around your ankle.

1st i would make sure that i got the tattoo someplace where i could hide it if i had to. Then i would suggest that you don't have to get a tattoo. you could get a bracelet or necklace. but if you insist on getting a tattoo then maybe you could get like some type of plant so that as you have more children it would "grow".
