I upload all of my pictures on to photobucket from my digital camera and i was just wondering if this was a smart thing to do. If photobucket ever shut down I would loose all of my family pictures and my pictures from highschool [im currently a sophomore]...do you think this is likely? Printing pictures/making a CD is to expensive & i just find photobucket more convenient. THANKS!

One thing I've learned in life is this... NOTHING is forever.

Get a friend to burn your pics on a CD or DVD - if you can't pay them, trade something for the service - homework, a haircut, whatever! It won't hurt you to put all your eggs in two (or three baskets.

Considering that I work for Photobucket, I feel pretty confident re: the stability of the company!

However if you would like to ensure that your images, videos, and etc. is available as a backup, Photobucket does work with partners to create CD & DVD backups of the files in your account.

Login to Photobucket and click on the link button that says "Order Prints".

From there you'll be sent to a partner site which offers options for lots of products that you can make from your Photobucket account including one called "Photo Disks".

Price Description
$9.99 CD Backup (per disk)
$14.99 DVD Backup (per disk)

Regarding the issue of CD's being too expensive, if you are a wise consumer you can get CD's for around 5 cents a CD. In fact here is a good deal http://dealmac.com/deals/Verbatim-52-x-CD-R-Media-100-Pack-for-14-shipped-after-rebate/152241.html
It is always a good idea to make a backup of your images. Even if Photobucket doesn't go out of business servers can be hacked into, data can be lost due to migration, human error etc etc etc. As for the whole idea of Photobucket going out of business, just remember this is the high tech industry.

store them on your pc and backup with a copy on CD ( which you can get for less than a dollar)
