You need to stop the puppy from biting you as he tries to bite you!
You take his muzzle with your hand and you say "No!" very clearly and firmly and then you close his mouth and keep it closed until he is paying attention to you, then release him.

He is not going to like this treatment very much, and he is going to resist it the best he can, but you are bigger than him right now and you need to show him you are the boss and that you will not take any nonsense or biting from him.

This is very important because if he becomes a habitual biter, you may have to wind up having him put down. The world does not tolerate nor should it tolerate a biter.

If you are not able to train him, you will need to get a professional dog trainer to teach YOU how to train HIM.

Okay? Good luck!

Most puppies go through this and it is mainly because they are teething. When they are teething, their teeth hurt and they want to relieve that pain by chewing and biting. To prevent your puppy from biting people, by it some chew toys. These will allow your puppy to relieve some of his pain. If he bites a human, instantly pick him up and firmly say NO BITE. Then, give him a chew toy and if he starts chewing on the chew toy, praise him. If you are consistent, your puppy will learn that he is not allowed to bite people, but he is allowed to bite his toys. Do this if he chews other things you dont want him chewing on like your favorite shoes or shirts.

When he does this, gently but firmly take his snout and firmly tell him no. If he goes for it again, repeat. Labs are smart but need the consistent training. Also remember, he's a puppy and part of it could be teething. You could give him a more appropriate chew toy - kongs are great and virtually indestructable.

At the puppy obedience class I took my lab puppy to, they said to make a crying puppy sound when they bite. The puppy is supposed to let go. (Mine will lick my hand then if that's what he's nipping at.) Also, when he's chewing on something that he's not supposed to, trade it for a toy that he is allowed to have. You have to keep a good eye on labs, but they're such great dogs! Good luck!

Give him lots of other things to chew (plush toys, soft plastic balls, etc.) Tell him no (I used "no bite") very firmly when he chews things he's not supposed to and replace it with one of those toys. Whenever you catch him chewing something he's supposed to tell him what a good boy he is. There's also bitter apple spray that you can get for your furniture and stuff.

Train him well. Like whenever he does those kindof things you grab his snout and hit it (Not too hard) and say "NO!". If he continues to do so then tie him up... after a while of being good you give him a treat. It may also help to buy him a chew toy.

Puppies need to chew, they bring in new teeth just like human babies do. Give him beef bones or plastic bones (for now) rawhide is terrible they eat it and it doesnt digest well. Train your dog ny saying no when he starts to chew on somthine and give him his chew toy or bone the praise after they chew on it. I have many more training tips on our site buridcklabradors.com helpful hints page under training.
