stop him from throwing the item to begin with. Don't just say no, mean no.

Put him somewhere for a few minutes where he can't throw anything, like an empty crib or a playpen. When you put him there, tell him no throwing/hitting/etc and turn and leave him there for 2 minutes. It a version of timeout that can be fitting to a young toddler. Just make sure there is nothing in the crib/playpen for him to play with, he'd probably just throw it anyway, and having something to play with would defeat the purpose. Stick to your guns, he's learning every time.

When he throws something inappropriate calmly take it away from him and say whatever the object is aren't for throwing but balls or bean bags are. Then give him a ball or bean bag to play with. I made game of it by tossing in an old laundry basket. If he is still being aggressive throwing harmful objects hitting keep telling him no and give explanation that hurts or etc... and remove him from situation.Key is each time you have to react same way I found my daughter learns by repetition.

Stop saying no and slapping his hand, it isn'tworking. Show him where he can throw instead. Draw a big target on a piece of paper and put it on a wall then when he feel like throwing, send him there to do it. Think for a minute from his point of view. You say stop, but what is he supposed to do instead? Discipline means teaching, teaching him to do it right and at an appropriate time and in an appropriate place, not just not to.

have an area you can safely put him in that he can not destroy. When he does this, take away the object, give him a smack on the hand with a loud NO and then put him in the area for 1 minute. You need to stop this as other parents will not be tolerant if he hurts their kids
