What can the average Australian do to get our government to reconsider signing the kyoto agreement? What is the reason John Howard has given for not signing it, and what do you think the real reason is? Do you think we should be given the oppertuinity to vote on such an important decission? I personally think it is digracefull that we are one of the only countries not to sign....

i agree with your additional details!!!

the reason that the howard govt. won't sign the treaty which is trying so desperately to get the earth back on an even keel is...well...the simple answer is GREED. the current govt. is firmly in the hands of the big business end of town who are not wanting to upset their apple cart!!!

the signing of the treaty is going to result in a lot of changes for our country and not many of them are - at the moment - very palatable. the doomsayers that don't want to sign reckon that it's going to result in thousands of lost jobs - but what it really means is that their profit margins will be lowered and we don't want that now, do we? hehe...

there are solutions out there. they're going to be hard for a while, but the long-term scenario if we remain with the status quo is so much worse! lets go for a little bit of discomfort now rather than living in a hell-hole.

we MUST be given the opportunity to vote on this. the next federal election will be a beautiful opportunity and we really need to be thankful that we live in a democracy that allows every person to have a say.

my suggestion - if you're serious about actively doing something - is to get in contact with your local Green Party. they've not got the same big business connections to worry about and they're really on the right track with most (not all) of their suggestions. also, if you want to get involved, all you have to do is join. then you have full voting rights at any of their national meetings! how many other political parties are like that???

also, the Green Party is an Australian "invention" which has gone global. Dr. Bob Brown got it together during the campaign to save the Franklin Dam back in the early eighties. since then., the idea has found so much favour all over the world that it's now a real "force to be reckoned with"!!!

hope this helps and gives you a modicum of faith that we CAN do something as individuals!!!

love and light,

CO2 IS TURNING AUSTRALIA INTO A DESERT WASTELAND!!
Really? Who cares anyway. Are there humans actually living in Australia? Maybe they were forced to live there, like they were prisoners or something.

Interesting fact (look up the word "fact" in a dictionary). There are whale bones in the middle of the sahara desert. How do you think those whales got there? Maybe ancient cavemen hauled them into the middle of the desert to confuse us.
If not, then where are the ancient coal plants and SUVs that created the sahara desert?

Wrong.

KYOTO TREATY IS BAD FOR EARTH

It closes factories in countries with good enviromental laws(U.S., Australia, etc.) and it creates new "dirty" factories in countries with bad pollution records(China).

Of course 3rd world countries support the Kyoto treaty. The treaty is a welfare program.

What is an "average Australian"? I have known a few Australians, and they were far from average.
