Since I am in school, it is difficult for me to go to the gym Monday-Thursday, so I usually go one day between Mon-Thurs, and then Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. For Fri-Sun, I usually do chest Fri, arms Sat, chest Sun (focusing on upper body.) Is this too much of a workload for my muscles (since overexercising hampers results)? Is it ok if I work out a certain group of muscles every other day?

I think that you should just pay attention to how your body responds to the exercise. I think you should be fine, you were smart to switch from chest to arms to chest so that you aren't working the same muscles everyday. If you ever feel stressed or like your muscles are overworked, I would just take a break and maybe try just friday then sunday for a weekend. Otherwise, I think you will be okay because that is only a total of four days out of seven a week. It would be another story if you exercised EVERY day every week. If you want better details, consult a professional who works at the gym you go to. They can give you some extra tips on keeping your muscles in good shape!

Yea this would be considered overtraining. In reality, you shouldn't work out the same muscle more than twice in one week, spread out over at least three days rest in between lifts. Do do more will keep the muscle fibers from recovering fully and you'll never build this way. In fact, you may see diminishing returns.

It can be hard to make gains when your schedule is so budy you can't go any given day during the week. It may be worthwhile to do some exercises at home, perhaps getting some dumbells or at least do pushups or pullups when you can't make it to the gym. I highly recommend not doing muscle groups every other day.

As I understand it as long as you don't work the same muscle groups every day. Every other day is what the specialists tell you to do. It sounds like you have a good routine going. The key is to give your muscles a day in between to build and heal from the previous days work out. Just keep alternating muscle groups and you'll be fine.

It is okay to work different muscle groups like you are. Every other day is best. You say you are getting to the gym 4 times per week so why not make 3 sessions weight training and one session purely cardio. Weekday session WEIGHTS Friday WEIGHTS Saturday CARDIO Sunday WEIGHTS. this way you get plenty of time for muscles to reapair after a workout and a cardio session wich is important no matter what you are trying to acheive. I also find that a light to moderate cardio session after weight training is great for easing DOMS (delayed onset of muscle soreness).

I'm no expert, but i believe that you are not overworking yourself. I run track, and i workout 5 days straight and then take the weekend off. (This is what our coach instructs us to do) So, you should be fine. And, working out certain groups of muscles gives others a rest, so you aren't overworking yourself.

In my opinion, i'm young also so i think you should be fine. My routine is

Mon- Chest/Back
Tues- Arms/Shoulders
Wed- Legs
Thurs- Chest/Back
Fri- Arms/Shoulders
Sat-Legs
Sun- Rest day

Just make sure you vary your workouts (ex. For chest one day do dumbbell press then the next do Barbell Press)

I think it is wonderful.Just do not over do it on the reps. Or spread out the reps over more days. You caould also add some cardio on days you have school by just dancing around the house or taking a walk.

When you work out, (this reminds me to do my crunches) the muscle tissue tears, and when they come back together somehow they gain mass. You need to give it time to come back together, or you won't get any muscle growth. Screw school. It's gay.

i think it is. one reason taking a day between work outs is good is to let the muscles and body repair themselves.
