The Bible also says that “the heart is more treacherous than anything else and is desperate.” (Jeremiah 17:9) How can the heart be treacherous, a danger to us? Well, an automobile, for example, is a valuable tool, even a lifesaver in an emergency. But if the driver does not control the car, constantly guiding the steering wheel, that same car may easily become a deadly weapon. Similarly, unless you safeguard your heart, you will be at the mercy of your every inner desire and impulse, and your life course will veer into disaster. God’s Word says: “He that is trusting in his own heart is stupid, but he that is walking in wisdom is the one that will escape.” You can walk in wisdom and escape disaster if you use God’s Word to guide you, much as you would consult a road map before beginning a trip.

The purpose of Jeremiah ministry, was to urge people to repent of their sins, and turn back to God, deceitful, means,to lie or cheat, your heart can deceive you, into thinking ,some things are true, Were it, your heart, is really deceiving you to think, that all is good, to let you be aware, that your heart can, and will, really deceive you, If a person is really a kind and true person, and "young" at heart, that haven't yet "learned" this about their heart, until they go through things, to learn that the heart can and will deceive you, for example you know how some marry, and later divorce, your heart deceived you into thinking that this was your soul mate, and later through divorce you find out that you really never had nothing in common at all but lust to start with,That is why one should always search ones heart, and not let visual things or attractions lead your heart, your heart will cause suffering in a lot of different ways and divorce being one, always have control of your heart because some never get over the heart ac-ks that their heart has caused, And it causes some to commit suicide to become an alcoholic drug addict and Etc:..I hope I have help you God bless you through your journey of Gods words, and never doubt His words because of miss understanding,

Hi, this is one of the many verses where "heart" should have been translated "mind".
This tells you that we are in the flesh, and the human mind can be deceitful - often we even lie to ourselves; and it is certainly beyond cure - there is no cure for it - as long as you are in the flesh, you're human, and you are gonna sin. period. So don't let someone, or make yourself try to be some kind of perfect, non-sinning saint, because it will be only a lie -to others and to yourself - you are a sinner like all the rest of us, and need to repent to God for a fresh start, when you fall short.
Who can understand the heart (mind)?
Only God Himself. Thats why He has to be the one who does the judging, got it??

a million. There are fairly 40,000 neurons [wondering cells chanced on contained in the mind] contained in the middle. 2. the middle [actually] has a options of its own. It would not continually obey the instructions of the mind like different organs. truly, each now and then it does the different of what it truly is commanded to do. 3. In Islamic concept, as well as historic chinese traditions, the spirit, soul, or shen, is housed contained in the actual coronary heart, and therefore at the same time as the Qu'ran or something else refers back to the "coronary heart" it truly is fairly referring, fairly actually, to the soul. therefore the verse potential, by saying, "hearts wherewith they understand no longer..." -that their souls at the on the spot are not operating suited.. their religious eye isn't open, they are getting too materialistic and in love with the international, too boastful, disdainful, etc. to ever be guided. I.E. their soul/coronary heart is so corrupted that they are useless human beings, walking zombies, extra or a lot less. that is supported by yet another Qu'ran verse which states that Allah places a seal on each boastful coronary heart [40:35] as well as a Hadith in Sahih Bukhari the position the Prophet [saas] mentions that there are 2 varieties of hearts, one tender and calm like a creek-stone, and yet another like an overturned vessel, thoroughly impregnated with want and no training can enter it... it truly is sparkling that in "Islam-talk" the "coronary heart" is yet another note for the soul, or the religious self, it truly is particularly appropriate to the fitrah. wish this clarifies the region for you. Salaam/Peace

Simply that our heart is dark. We are by nature prone to sin and wander from God. The Bible also says that what pours from our mouth will show where our heart is - if we curse and hate others with our words it shows that our heart doesn't truly love God. We cannot understand our heart and the reason we do the things we don't want to do - Paul even says in Romans, why do I do what I don't want to do? Because we have two natures once we accept Jesus Christ into our lives - the sinful nature and the holy nature. They wage war with one another. It is only through the help of the Holy Spirit that we have any chance of doing anything right. Any good in me is Jesus Christ.

Although many people will tell you to follow your heart, the Bible in this verse is saying the opposite the reason why we should not follow our heart is stated there in this verse, because the heart is treacherous and no one can understand it, it can lead us away from God onto the wrong path, it can mislead us and therefore we cannot trust it, it is corruptable. That is why it says there that the heart is deceitful, but whom can it deceive? Us of course, this is how people deceive themselves, by following their heart. And the Bible in that verse is warning us about this.

It means none of us can ever be perfect. We can be very much like God, but never exactly alike. Jesus was the only perfect one, in whom saved us from our sins. It can be cured with God. He purifies our heart. I think you need to read other verses that were like right before this one to get a better understanding of who God is talking to, and what he means. hope it helped.

I think it's saying that a person's heart is a mystery and even we can't see into our own hearts, only God can look into a person's heart and see them for who they really are.

When the Bible talks about our hearts it is talking about our emotions. If we let our emotions lead our judgment we will usually make a bad choice.
