she should be sleeping in a crate, make sure that the crate isn't to big, put the crate in your bedroom. This way the puppy can hear you and won't feel lonely. You and your puppy need time to bond. keep the puppy with you at all times if not the puppy can be in her crate. rat terriers have small tummys it is not unlikley for her to eat 3 small amounts a day. try to keep her feeding scheduled it will help with potty training. She is sleeping because she is growing give her a couple weeks and you will have a ball of energy with 4 legs on your hands. Good luck

I also have a rat terrier. He used to whine quite a bit at night. I put him a little kennel and also got him a nice fluffy towel to snuggle up in. I started taking him out as late as possible at night to go potty, then once again during the night and then first thing in the morning. Make sure you aren't playing with her when you take her out if it is in the middle of the night so she understands to go potty and then get back in her kennel. It just helps to set a routine and stick with it. She'll get better as time goes on.
Also, it is pretty normal for them to only eat a little bit when they are small. She'll eat more and she gets more active. Just keep an eye on her and make sure that she drinks plenty of water. My rat terrier is 3 and half and he still doesn't really eat a whole bunch unless we've been out walking a lot or he's been really active. She is still a puppy and is a lot like a baby. Give her time and she'll be bouncing off the walls. They are awesome dogs and I wouldn't trade mine for anything in the world. Good luck :-)

Rat Terriers need lots and lots of exercise to tire them out. But yours is just a puppy and feels nervous about it's new surroundings. Sometimes a ticking clock in the room with the pup helps to calm it down at night. When I got my puppy, 10 years ago, the breeder gave me a sock that had all the smells of his mom on it. He carried that sock with him everywhere for about a week until he got used to us.

She probably just missed her family. I have two little rat terriers myself and they are the sweetest dogs ever, but they have a bunch of energy. When we got them they didn't whine, but that's probably because they are brother and sister and they knew eath other. Just give your dog some attention and she should be good after a while.

She cries because she's scared. You might want place a piece of your clothing in her bed. One that you won't miss because she WILL chew it up (no buttons PLEASE!) As far as her sleeping all day, it sounds as if she doesn't get enough activity during the day & that is why she's up all night. Remember-Ratties are a high energy dog and need to be taken out for walks at least twice a day.

When I got my little pup she did the same things. She was nervous and didn't know what to do. Does she sleep in a cage? If so, let her in bed with you, that helped my puppy grow attached to me!

she is just afraid and doesnt know what is happening to her....you can give her a warm bed and a soft cuddle toy, you can put her in bed with you under the covers and she will feel your breath and your heartbeat...she is lonely and unsure what is going on.....give her a chance.....she is a baby......what do 2 month old human babies do at 2 months old...not much more than your puppy is doing...it is normal

She's nervous in her new surroundings-just pamper her a little more this first week, she'll calm down and start eating more eventually, and sleeping better also.
