Taking a break can mean very different things to people. Before you agree to taking a break, I recommend that you talk to other half about what the break entails. In my own relationship I have taken a break. Things were getting too stressful, and I needed time to clear my head to see if I wanted to be in the relationship. My boyfriend and I discussed the terms of the break.

Some people use it as an excuse to just break up with you and fool around with other people. My boyfriend respected the fact that I needed time to think about things. You should talk about why the break is happening...

in a relationship, taking a break means spending some time apart (NOT BREAKING UP), just leave each other alone for a little bit so you can figure things out.

It's a nice way to put you down in quiet way. Because the break could be indefinite. During the break you or the male might meet someone else. It's a way not to be committed to just one person...and decide whether you want them back or someone new.

it means you have temporarily broken up as she wants to pursue someone else but still keep you hanging on just in case that other person isn't interested. Taking a break is a load of crap.

Taking a break could just be a polite way to say i dont like u anymore. i want to find someone else. OR it could be a way to say that they just want to see other people or that they just want to be by themselves for a little while. It all depends on the situation.

I think its a nicer way to say "cool down" or.. need some times to think that why ppl use the word "break". But most of the time it come to a negative effect.
