I am the American half of a Canadian/American couple, and the only "problem" at all is that people apologize to my husband when they make ignorant remarks about americans like one of your answerers did, when they find out his wife is one. Other than that, there have been no problems. Canada is so multi-cultural and generally tolerant, even of Americans on an individual basis.
Note to previous person ... one of the main reasons Canadians know more about Americans than vice versa is exposure. Canadians get American TV, news, magazines, etc. etc. etc ... but Americans dont get Canadian TV, etc. You are exposed to our culture and laws and such all the time, so you learn about them without even trying. And many Americans go out of there way to learn about their neighboring countries.

I would marry an American if I fell in love with one, but I would never move down there.
As for the anti-American bias it is because Canadians define themselves as being "not american". Frankly, most Candians do not support the war in Iraq, and hate bush. If you do move to Canada, no one will think badly of you or be mean or anything if that is what you are worried about. You might get teased a bit by friends/coworkers for saying things funny like "zee" and such, but thats all.
Hope you and your fiance have a great wedding.

I would have no problem myself marrying an American. In fact, I'm dating an American so the possibility, I guess, is there. I have a cousin who married an American and they live in New Jersey now.
I guess the Anti American thing is dependant on the people involved. There's never been any problems between my family and my guy or my cousin and his wife's family.

If I loved them of course I would.
Americans, same as anywhere else are sterotyped as a group. But that dosen't mean I couldn't love an individual.
As a couple you don't always have to agree, and politics will always be a personal choice. But that's ok. You just have to agree to disagree and when it comes time to choose where you are going to live, make the adjustment for that.
Best of luck, I hope all works out for you!

My daughter is married to an American.
It is not the nationality that matters to Canadians it is the person.
My son-in-law is loved by my wife and myself as is his entire family.
I know I speak for most Canadians;(99.9%)we are not hung up on the bigotry of nationality, we like a person - or dislike a person for what kind of person they are and that includes our fellow Canadians.

I don't think this even mentioned in news or articles in Canada. It really makes no difference here.

We like to poke some fun at Americans, just like they do to us. But its not serious. You should watch "Talking to Americans" with Rick Mercer...hilarous!
