Linda,

Your question is difficult to answer without further specifics such as age for "people"? Are their medicines brand names versus generics? Are they working? Do they have prescription health insurance?

Many communities and local hospitals have pharmacy assistance programs to help with the cost of medications but financial guidelines must be met with other requirements. There are also pharmacy discount drug cards but may only offer 10-15% discount off the cost of a drug.

If I were in this situation, I would call my local hospital, ask to speak to a social worker about the subject. Most hospitals have recognized the need and have arranged for funding sources for their own pharmacy assistance programs seeing it is cheaper to keep people healthy and on their medicines rather than incur the cost (and eventually absorb it later as a loss) when someone comes in sick because of not being able to pay for their own prescriptions.

I wish you the best.

Have you tried the Wall-Mart $4 prescription list?
Here is a link to the free Consumer Reports guide to lowering your prescription costs. Especially look at the PDF document on Getting the Best price on your drugs.

Try American Prescription Plan. It's the one Montel Williams does the commercials for. Sometimes even the drug company will help with the cost of your prescriptions, ask your Dr. or pharmacist.

Depending onthe manufacturer of the meds-give them a call they should have a tolll-free phone number, and ask for prescription help. Your local pharmacy or your dr. should have that kind of information as well. Take care.

I think you can try at your local Social Services Office. Or at least
they should be able to tell you where you can go for help on
Prescriptions.
