It depends on which state you live in. Check out their government websites. I started a non-profit in Michigan and started by selecting a name. I then applied within my state to start the business (non-profit); then, I received a tax i.d. number; from there, I applied to the IRS for 501(c)(3) status. You would need to check in the state that you would like to operate your non-profit. www.throughourhands.org

If your focus is on India approach the Indian Embassy in Canada or US.
There are a number of organisations helping the physically, mentally challenged people, at times orphans also. Red Cross Society will be able to guide you.
It will be most helpful to humanity, the faster you decide and act.

You can at any time start helping others. You may ask me to join your organisation. I am based in West Delhi, India and may NOT be able to visit far places.
1st start service, then seek help from others. You can print receipt books and ask your known persons to help. You can apply for regn. of your organisation. You should write aims and objects etc. You can open a/c in Bank, apply for PAN etc.

Well here's a start, I think you spell organization with a z, not an s.
Yep, spell check confirmed it.
If you are sure you don't want to make money, ask someone in the government, they only know how to spend, have no idea how to make money.
Or ask the post master general, that's what he's running.
You could try Legal Zoom dot com, they might be able to advise you of how to set it up.
Good luck d:O)

Before you start your own, why not join one? Canada has plenty of organizations helping the needy where you can volunteer and gain experience before setting off on your own.

Find one in your area, develop a relationship with it's director, tell them what you want to do and want to accomplish and ask for help in setting one up.
