We got her when she was 6 months old and her hair grew for about 6 months and then it stopped. Her hair has not grown a cm for 8 months now. Should I be concerned? I thought that Yorkies were supposed to have long beautiful hair. She is about 1.4 years old now. Do you think its allergies? any advice?

Could be several things; from allergies to hypothyroidism. A vet check (especially for thyroid) would be your best answer. Low thyroid is easily treated with a little pill and if that's the trouble, then the hair should start growing again once the levels are normal and stabilized.

Go to a pet store or do a search on line for a product called "Missing Link" - It is a food supplement that really works wonders for a dogs coat. I have yorkies also and had a terrible time with one of them until I started supplementing with this. It takes about a month but it does make a big difference in texture, shine, etc. Also, make sure you are feeding a good quality dog food. That can also make a big difference.

Eric J is correct - it is probably genetic. I breed & show Collies & it's the same thing with all breeds - some lines have good coat & some do not. There is probably nothing you can do for your puppy's coat aside from keeping it clean & brushed to get it to it's full potential. But if she doesn't have the genetic potential to grow a long coat - she just wont.

NOT "allergies" or improper nutrition!
Just a poorly bred LOW QUALITY speciman of the breed!

Doubtless made by an ignorant puppymill/BYB type.

Try this-worm her! I have a Cocker that rubs herself bald when she gets wormy, and the hair wont grow until I worm her well. I don't mean with the Wal-Mart crap, either. Go to the vet and get the GOOD de-worming stuff. It's not that expensive.
