Hey Jewels X,

The LDS Family Search site has a bunch of entries. First I tried Swyrich.com, but there was no entry.

Gender: M Birth/Christening: 1688 Germany

Some English and Netherlands are equally old. In a case like this, it might be worth doing a Family Tree DNA Project entry for yourself by having a Male member with the Surname Staring do the DNA test. There are 2 Staring DNA Projects. You could gain some insight as to the origin of your family.

Personally, I participated in one to prove my surname is Scottish, not Irish. So far, proved not Irish, but have not proven Scottish - no other participants match me. It is always possible that there is a Milkman Syndrome in my ancestry. When another Scottish ancestor tests, I will then know (or so I hope).

In the Staring case, you have 2 tests already in progress, you can talk to the Project Manager and see which would benefit you the most, and if they share results, and how many markers each does.

You could also do your Family Tree, with records and prove where it originates. Sometimes this is the only way to get to the source. Try also, GENFORUM for Staring, you can talk to other Starings. There is a Forum for Staring, link below. There you can post, ask, and search questions about the Staring Surname.
