The US Bureau of Labor Statistics says that the mean salary for a veterinarian is about $75,000.
Newly licensed veterinarians can expect to earn between $25,000 to $35,000 a year ($12.00 - 16.82 hr). Annual earnings for Veterinarians with three to five years experience range from $32,000 to $50,000. Veterinarians with 6 to 10 years' experience can expect salaries of $40,000 to $75,000 or more. Beginning Veterinarians usually enter federal service at the GS-9 level ($30,652 per year) and can rise to GS-12 level or higher ($44,450 per year). At the State level, salaries range between $38,000 and $53,000 per year. Veterinarians in private practice are usually able to establish their own appointment hours, although emergency cases or heavy caseloads frequently lead to long and irregular hours. This is especially true for Veterinarians just starting out, or those who are in practice by themselves. For those working in government agencies and private industry, hours are much more regular, and Veterinarians generally enjoy good fringe benefits.

An everyday vet could make anywhere from $30K up to $300K a year, depending on the type of practice and their fees. A vet with a great reputation in an upscale clinic in Newport Beach, CA is going to make a heck of a lot more than a beginning vet at a Petsmart clinic or a vet in po-dunk, mississippi.
From there, specialists can make even more money. Think orthopaedics, oncology, opthamology, etc. We have several specialist clinics around here and a simple consultation starts at $200.

Not nearly enough. They go to school for the same amount of time as human doctors, learn about SEVERAL species of animals (ie cats AND dogs) as opposed to just learning about humans, and make a fraction of the amount of money that human doctors make.
No one works in the animal industry for the money. Not even the doctors.
To answer your question, I'd say depending on the type of clinic they work in and the area they live in, their salaries start somewhere around $60k.

I have heard they can make up to $160.000 per year, depending on where they are located, and how the pet owners are for care of their pets-surgeries, etc. Take care.
