My dentist says that I need braces but its minor. I'll be off the braces probably in a year or so. But he doesn't install braces on his patients. He refers his patients to dentist specialized in braces. So she'll be putting my braces on. I haven't gone to the first appointment with her. SO can someone please tell me what she'll probably do the first time I visit her oh and what are spacers?

You will go in for a consult and they will take impressions of your mouth and x-rays to see if you have impacted teeth or wisdom teeth present. The consult is about 30 minute visit. You will come back and meet with the Orthodontist and he/she will discuss with you on what they think is best for your case. They will give you an estimate on price and how long you will be in the braces. He/she will also talk about if you will need teeth pulled, rubber bands, spacers and headgear as well. If you need spacers they will make you an appt to get those places. They are small rubber bands places between the back teeth to make room for the banded brackets to go. You will wear those for a week or so and that will be the worst part of the whole braces experience. After a week or two you will come back to have the spacers removed, if they have not come out on their own, and have the braces placed. They will put all of this stuff in your mouth to keep it dry for the glue and place a bracket on each tooth. This will take about 1 1/2 hours. Then you will come back every month or so to get the braces adjusted, or tightened. All that is is they will take the wire out of your mouth and replace it with a longer or shorter one depending on if your teeth need to come forward or go inward. If you need rubber bands they will tell you where they are to attach and put them on for you. Each month you can change the colors of the brackets with small elastics that hold the wire in. That's kinda fun. When you get them off it takes about 1 1/2 hours as well and they take this instrument that squeezes the brackets to release the glue. It sounds like your teeth are breaking but they are not. Afterward your teeth feel loose because you don't have the pressure of the wire anymore and they feel a bit slimy. But you will have a perfect smile. Well worth the money, just make sure and wear your retainer!

First of all, you're so lucky that you only get a year of braces. At your first visit with your orthodontist, they'll inspect your teeth visually. Then she'll probably take some x-rays, make a few molds of your teeth, and then ask some questions and tell you the general procedure of getting your braces. It's a step by step process, so you more than likely won't get your braces until about a bit over a month or two after your first appointment.Oh, and spacers are pain! Well, not big pain, but still some, just warning you. They are put between your two back teeth to create spaces between them so that the back rings will fit there and the wires will have a place to fit. They probably won't be in for more than a month. Once you get your bracket and wires, you'll understand what I mean.
Hope this helped!

Usually the first visit is a consultation where the orothodontist will do a thorough exam and you will probably get some diagnostic radiographs(x-rays) and impressions(molds) taken of your mouth. After the Dr. reviews these records, you will have your first official appointment for treatment. If an appliance or banding (regular metal braces) is recommended, you will probably have spacers placed between your molars to make a littel space for the bands of the braces or appliance.

Braces are not that undesirable. The orthodontist will extra healthful 4 metallic bands round you decrease back tooth (one on each and each area, genuine and bottom), then glue brackets on each and each of you different tooth. Then a wire is outfitted alongside the brackets and those little element are placed on to carry the wire in. (they're what provide the braces shade). it really is a painless procedure yet your mouth will be sore the subsequent day because you tooth are being pulled on. reliable success! (no longer that you want it :)

They will probably put rubber in between your teeth to make room for the braces, those will be on for about a week. When you come back, they will first glue the metal pieces onto your teeth, insert the wire, put on the rubber bands, and that's pretty much it.
