It's the creation of a smart-aleck university student who had nothing better to do that poke fun at religious beliefs he found disagreeable.

Check it out on Wikipedia.

Its a parody religion. Nothing more. The followers know this, and they don't take it seriously.

He doesn't believe in God, and wanted to show how easy it is to create a religion. He says that if he invents a being, and says it created the universe, that everyone will call him crazy. But if someone else invents a religion 2000 years ago, and hands it down through history to millions of people, that, although it is no different, it is soon considered to be fact. People go to war over it, cause endless suffering in its name, and die to protect it.

Go to wikipedia and check it out. He means no harm, except that to point out that religion is easy to manufacture - just look at Scientology. Its only been around for 40 years or so, and look how seriously some people take it.

In 500 years, the Flying Spaghetti Monster could be considered a true God........

The Flying Spaghetti Monster was created by someone who doesn't want science classes teaching intelligent design (or at least only one version of intelligent design). He wrote a letter to the Kansas School Board saying he was concerned students would only hear about one type of intelligent design, and wanted others to be considered such as the flying spaghetti monster, which he obviously made up.

Please don't say the FSM mocks Christianity.
It mocks intelligent design, which is utterly mockworthy.
Not all Christians believe in Intelligent Design, and not all people with a mythological creation story go around and demand that their RELIGION be taught as if it were science!
