Many Christians have been taught to believe that their religion owns all the stock in morality, goodness, and spirituality. Therefore anyone who isn't them can't have morals, or be good, or know how to love because that flies in the face of what they've been taught to believe.

Somewhere, you got it wrong : Christians do think that atheists have morals but that that moral code is transient, based on the current situation of the society or individual.
On the other hand, the Christian's moral code is based on the very (unchanging) nature of God Himself. If part of that code says, "Thou shall not steal", then ALL Christians all over the world know that stealing is wrong under all circumstances (though some may still steal, knowing that what they do is wrong!!). But depending on the time a place, an atheist may say today that stealing is wrong but next year he may say it is right!!!
Why do atheists think that Christians are simple-minded and cannot think for themselves?

Misinformation. Not really knowing atheists, etc. I remember when a friend of mine (a Christian) first found out I was an atheist. She said to me, "How could you be an atheist, you're such a nice guy!" It's really amazing. Just reading some of these answers shows the ignorance and bias theists have against atheists. We don't need a fairy tale (The Bible) to teach us what is right or wrong. It's common sense.
People are people. There are wonderful, loving, caring atheists and theists. There are horrible, nasty, hateful atheists and theists. It's as simple as that.

That's probably because many people who call themselves Christians really don't believe in what Jesus taught. Therefore they think that since someone doesn't believe the same way they do, they must be filthy heathens. They think that because these people don't believe in what the Bible teaches that they don't have many morals. Also I'm sure that they've probably met several Atheists who haven't had morals, just as there are some "Christians" who don't have morals.

First off dude I'm neither an Atheist nor am I a Christian but I must point out that you misspelled both Atheist and Christian. Anyway why do you pay much mind to what they are saying? If you know that you are not immoral then that's what matters the most.

I don't know where you heard that from, I am Catholic and have never been taught that. In fact I know plenty of non athiests who have better "morals" than people from any given faith. However that is a tough question to answer because morals obviously very from person to person. I know my sister does not eat meat because she thinks it is wrong to kill animals, and at the same time i work at a meat market. So what is moral to one is not moral to everyone.

Atheists can be moral. However, without a God concept, morality is created by man, and thus there is no deeper meaning to concepts like justice, equality etc. Morality is just consensus. So, for example, if a society decides that prostitution should be legal, the opposition can voice its opinion, but it's just an opinion. There is no real force behind it. Likewise, if abortion was to be outlawed, the opposition can voice its opinion, but it's just that: an opinion. One cannot appeal to anything beyond consensus.

As most atheist would reject the Bible as a source for determining their morals, an atheist is unlikely to have the SAME moral standards as a Christian. For example, they would probably not think that using God's name in vain would be a major sin.
Everyone has "morals". But normally only Christians will have "Christian morals".

Well, it could be that atheists don't have a moral base as Christians do... the Bible. The Bible spells out the moral code one is to live by whereas the atheists go on whatever they feel like... no base!

Not every single "cristian" believes that all "athiasts" have no morals. I am a "cristian" and I have "athiast" friends who have morals so stop complaining. You don't have to be a "cristian" to have morals.
