The *complete* healing process for a tattoo actually takes a fairly long time and goes through a number of phases. The look of the tattoo will change through these phases as the skin settles in. You won't be able to do much more until it's at least partially healed, so you might as well wait and see how it progresses.
I have an older tat that's part of my backpiece-in-progress, and it took about 3 months to completely settle in to it's current, permanent look. It was mostly there within a month, but there were subtle changes for a while after that.

I recently got one done too and i have noticed the change in colour. Its just because the skin has soaked up the ink into it. you will need to have it recoloured over time but that should be years not days. As long as you dont pick the scab it should be fine. I suppose its the colours they have used as well if they are dark.

This may sound quite disgusting, but my tattooist recommended using haemorrhoid cream or gel on my tattoo. It's a great moisturiser, it'll help keep the scab from drying out too much. It contains an astringent, so it'll keep it clean from infection. And also, one of the ingredients in it helps to reduce puffiness and swelling, and actively shrinks the area. It worked wonders on my tattoos, would definitly give it a go.

Leave it alone. Its still healing. that is an open wound after all. just keep it clean and put nappy rash cream on it this helps to heal it up. This information comes from the guy that done my tattoo and it does work. Even if you are to get it recoloured as far as I know you'll have to wait 2 wks at least. Good luck with it, if your still not Happy just go back to the tattooist and ask him what he thinks.

you said it is a new tattoo, do you have others? did they do this? all I know is that I have tribal art which is a lot of black ink and it seemed to be pretty bold when the scabs fell off. I guess it depends on where it is located also.Have another experienced artist take a look at it.

u shouldnt get it wet for 2 weeks, use E45 cream, its the best tattoo cream ive ever used and dont pick at it. it feels soft because it is a scar.
firstly you should have done research on how to maintain a tattoo, and if you didnt, then you should've asked your tattoo artist, because it sounds like someone didnt do their homework!
if it still looks dodgy in 3 months, then get it retouched. but not before 3 months as it is still healing.

sometimes the skin does look a little more dull until it is completely healed. also your skin will be softer because it hasn't healed. just because the scab is gone doesn't mean it has finished healing. just keep moisturising it and see how it turns out. you may have to get it touched up.

It may need touching up but probably not, go to the place you had it done; if it does need touching up then any decent tattooist will do it for free considering they didn't 100% complete it the first time around.
Nappy cream is better than vaseline if thats any use...

It sounds fine,if you're worried then speak to the tattooist when you go back for your next sitting. But you can't tell anything about how it's going to end up yet-not until it's healed, then you will be able to tell if it needs re-colouring.

Seems to me like you have had a tatoo by somebody who is not very good. All the tats i have had done have scabbed and started to peel after 4-5 days but the black has always been very clear. Had my first tatoo 13 years ago and it still looks pretty black to me. Go back and ask them to re do it.
