There seem to be several threads here from people who have Sauls family who were in Cannon Co Tn.
My ancestor was John Henry Sauls b 1824. I don't know who his father was. He and his wife and family show up on the Cannon Co 1850 census.
On the 1840 census there is a John Sauls living next door to a Henry Sauls. Does anyone know anything about these two men?
Any help appreciated! ---Melinda Elmore
Melinda, I am doing research on my husband's family who has Sauls in its ancestry. His direct ancestor is Henry who married Jerucca (?). Henry was born in Rutherford or Cannon County TN in 1801 (Cannon County was part of Rutherford County at one time and I don't know when it became separate); Jerucca(or maybe Jerusha?) was born in NC in 1807.
Henry's parents were John and Barbara(?) Sauls (she may also have been a Sauls). His grandfather was Abraham.
He had an older brother John who married Frances Davenport.
Henry and Jerucca are in the 1840 TN census with following children listed:
Males: William, John, David, Reubin
Females: Caroline, Charity (who married Cornelius Parker, my husband's ancestor), Mary, and an unnamed female "5-10 years old".
elinda, nice to meet you too. As I have found happens many times in family history research, I have benefitted from other researchers who generously shared their information. I received Family Group Sheets on John and Barbara Sauls and on Henry and Jerucca/Jerusha Sauls from Love Pearl (Parker) Yates. She is not in my husband's direct line, but they do have a common ancestor. The actual researcher on these two sheets was Edwin S. Neely who lives in Murfreesboro, TN (or did in 1997). I'm not sure what his connection is, but believe it may be through Henry and Jerucca's daughter Caroline Sauls. He was also the one who provided the 1840 TN census.
It was not my husband you corresponded with and am not sure who it might have been. If it was a descendent of Charity (Sauls) Parker, it might have been Douglas Parker.
Several of the postings indicate the Sauls came from Germany or were Dutch. In 1999 I talked with Gordean Parker about this and he understood some of them came from Salisbury/Salisbury Plains in England. I haven't tried any follow up on that information.
My info is pretty sparse, but hopefully it will help and I can also gain some further information from you or some of the many other Sauls postings I see.

Start out by going to http://www.rootsweb.com There are a lot of helpful links there.
Social Security Death Index-put in people's names, you will get their date of death, year of birth, and place where they got their last check.
US Gen Web-you can go to the Tennessee genealogical page and then to the county page where Cannon is located. Chances are you'll find information and researchers there who can help--and you can post a query.
World Connect--this is a collection of family trees. Put in Sauls in the search engine and see what you find!
And all these are available at rootsweb.

customarily I trust the 1st poster that that is all thoroughly relative (sorry with reference to the pun!) a million. i think, besides the incontrovertible fact that that is variety of of a stretch. 2. sure, nevertheless it is not glaring (no longer that that's a bad factor) 3. I by no skill theory-approximately this--i actually like the assumption and picture that's an exquisite thank you to honor somebody. 4. sure, this needless to say honors them. 5. sure, i think of this works as nicely. 6. i like this concept as nicely, nevertheless reckoning on the call of the honoree the youngster could desire to finally end up with a dreadful call (like the pair Hildegard and Bingen :) 7. yet another superb concept, yet i think of it may desire to bring about some dreadful names as nicely. 8. Like 7, a imaginitive concept that could desire to end very badly for the youngster. 9. sure, this could be a superb concept, nevertheless i do no longer think of there are that many names with such institutions that correspond to the entire variety of activities that folk might like. 10. that's a superb concept, yet there is not any way that i might enable some individuals of my family individuals call my new child, no remember how a lot i like them and want to honor them. (as an occasion, my siblings and that i've got been all named after Narnia characters, so my mom might by no skill get the prospect to call a grandchild, and my considerable different's mom's sought after names are Kyleigh and Jayden, so back, no way! If we've yet another new child and want to honor a chum, my husband and that i'll preserve finished naming rights! :) BQ a million: I honored the two one in each of my husband's previous due uncles who died while they have been childrens in a automobile crash. I gave my son 2 midsection names by way of fact i did no longer want to honor one over the different and that i did no longer want to apply the two as a popular call. (His call is William Frederick Robert.) If I even have yet another son i will call him Samuel Vanderford, as Vanderford is a popular male midsection call in our family individuals. BQ 2: You seem to have accomplished a very thorough job! the main suitable that i will arise with is that if the honoree became of a particular history (Irish, Italian and so on.) and you chosen a acceptance from that custom.
