Okay. So this girl I talk to invited me to come to her group meeting the other night at her 'synagogue.' The topic was the Israel-Palestine conflict and she knows I'm very actively Zionist. I'm involved in many Israel advocacy programs and always like to check out the different thoughts people have on the conflict. The only problem was that her 'synagogue' is actually Messianic. Now, Messianics (at least the ones here) are very close to Evangelical Xtians. Evangelicals control the vote in the states because they are 64% of voters. They tend to like Israel but due to the recent media slander, we don't know what's going on, so my line of thinking was that I could put my two cents into this discussion and get that train rolling.
However, they are Messianic, (that needs no explanation) and I think it is very important to distinguish/dissociate ourselves from them. So I was at a loss as to what to do. What do you guys think is right?

Johan and Jonah--I said fellow Jews. This is an issue you know nothing about. Thank you good bye. And I don't leave my questions to voters so you making a bunch of accounts won't help you get a best answer.

Like you, I am a Zionist. I have traveled from AL to GA, MI, FL, LA and TN to different Zionist seminars, which were underwritten by different Jewish groups, some by the Sahnut (Jewish Agency of Israel) while the Evangelicals sponsored the other ones. I went to one that was sponsored by the Evangelicals, but I was not expecting the seminar take a form of a sermon for they would constantly use the name of Jesus and constantly pray in his name. I never went to another one again. As you may or may not be aware Torah prohibits us listening or participating to prayers outside of Judaism. As Rabbi Micah Rabinovich (Rabbi of the Russian shul in Ashdod, Israel) once said, “Everyone dances to their own music. Christians dance to the beat of Christ, Muslims dance to the beat of Muhammad, and we Jews dance to the beat of Torah. As long as the nations dance to their own beats the world would rotate smoothly, but once we begin to incorporate different beats into our own music, we stand to loose more then just the beat…we stand to loose the heart.”
Having gone to one church, I can tell you from a personal perspective that it is not worth it if you are a religious Jew. I came to a church with my kippa on and you will be surprised how much the congregants tried to pressure me to convert. Some of the people would approach me and ask me to think about accepting Jesus as the Savior. I told them I was there for Israel and not for Jesus. Some people inside the church told me that the reason to why they support Israel was because Jesus wanted them to do it. In return they told me they wanted to spread the love of Jesus to the Jews. Have you heard of a saying that there is no such thing as a free lunch? To the Christian readers that happen to read my reply, please know that I appreciate all the support that the Christian community provides to Israel and I hope that God blesses your endeavors. I really and truly do. However, support of Israel should not be in the expanse of my Jewishness or being pressured to convert.
So, to answer your question don’t go into a church if you feel uncomfortable with the Christian prayers. Messianics are not Jews nor have they ever been Jews. Ask your friend to give you the notes from the meeting or recorded it for you. We are living in the modern age after all. Better yet, ask your rabbi for his opinion on the matter. If he says you can go, then go. If he says no, then don't go. However, I am reminded of one thing that in order to save a life you can break Shabbat and any other rule. There is a chance that if you present your arguments correctly and your arguments would gain an extra friend for Israel, then this action would save lives. The Evangelicals sponsor Jews to come to Israel from the former USSR and even from the States. But at the end it is really up to you and with what you feel comfortable with.

Do not go if you do not feel comfortable.
but if you do wish to go I would give some suggestions.
First off make sure that its a group meeting and not a service. If its a service you should not go.
Second make sure that you set some ground rules. If the talk is about the Israel-Palestine conflict then it should stay about the Israel-Palestine conflict. Tell them that religious debate will not be involved.
Third make sure someone else knows your going... Just in case.

Messianics are not all Jews, many are christians who want to be different from the rest of chrisitianity and they want to be Jews only because Jesus was a Jew. But they want to be different from the rest of the Jewish community also. They have a arrogant attitude of being complete with (Yeshua). They welcome you with trumpets and they treat you like a superstar because you are a real Jew and they will like you as long as you join them. Otherwise they will tell you, you are going to hell. Any ways, you will only end up disappointed in that place as a Jew, when you learn more about it. But it is your choice and no one should ever tell you where to go. 25% of them are Jews, but the rest of them are x-stian imposters.
