I have an Audi a4 2.0t with a 6 speed automatic. Its an AWD car. I would like to know whether I should just peg the throttle or there is something else to it. Also I have the option to put it in a sport mode or shift on my own. Should I hold the shifts out to right b4 the redline or is there some other way to find the best shift points?

If you have the option to shift on your own do it. Take it, just below the redline and shift to the next gear. Usually the redline is where you are at you best output of horsepower and torque. When you are in the auto shift position, it is usually set up for best gas mileage with horsepower secondary

Torque gets you moving quicker
Horsepower keeps you moving fast

Just peg the throttle. It is not good one the engine but it is the only way to get the 0-60 time. In the old days, it was better to shift the car manually, but in todays cars with all the electronics and computers, there is no performance gain be shifting yourself. You are better off letting the transmission shift itself and keep both hands on the wheel for safety.

Let the transmission do the shifting - it'll be more precise and accurate than you can be. Use sport mode to allow the car to shift for maximum acceleration (otherwise, it'll be a compromise between power and economy.) Just hit the gas and hang on.
