I have noticed many Christians say that if u do not believe in the entire Bible, then you are calling God a liar, but how is that? I mean, God Himself did not write the bible, man did. Man, which is also known to lie and hallucinate. It could have been anything. Half of these supposed Priests and Prophets could have been liars or crazy. I have faith in God and Jesus, but not in man. That is why i do not fullly believe in the bible. Can someone explain to me how i am wrong?

"if you believed God and had faith, you would believe his words"- matt.... but they are not God's words, they are what man claims to be God's words. If someone decided they wanted to be Mr. Holy today, he could just say "God told me this, and this, and that". Would you beleive him??? Just b/c he said that "God told him that"? Do u not see my point??

For michele, wasn't that excerpt written by man??? Not God Himself, but man, who claimed to have spoken with God. And for Michelle, how do u know that God picked them and they didn't just "pick themselves" or believed that God picked them because they were crazy and halucinating??? You don't.

Once again, it was man who wrote all of this stuff about God. It was man who claimed that God said this, and man is known to be wrong. I will give you a perfect example- A long time ago there was a guy named Galileo Galilei. He studied the stars and the universe. He invented the telescope. He came to discover that the sun was the center of the solar system (meaning our solar system is heliocentric). When he told ppl this however, they did not believe him. Why? Because in the BIBLE it said that the earth was the universe and that everything revolved around the earth (making us geocentric). The christians would not beleive Galileo and the church put him under house arrest for the rest of his life so that he couldn't spread word. Since then, it has been proven that the church (and the BIBLE- which once again was written by man) was wrong, and that our solar system is heliocentric. Since then, the bible has been changed, and the church has given parden to Galileo.Do u still not c my point?

Caleb-

I don't think you are wrong. Growing up in a conservative church I was taught that if you don't believe every single word of the Bible your are wrong. However, as I have studied the Bible and taken courses on the Bible, my opinion has changed greatly.

Many books of the Bible were written for a specific group of people at a specific time. Many Old Testament Prophets wrote about a savior for there people. Christians automatically use these prophesies to refer to Jesus when in fact many prophets intended for their prophecies to come true in a much shorter amount of time. This is just one example of how we often try to read something from a 20th century Christian viewpoint. When we take into account the time/reason various books where written we can take comfort that there is a reason God inspired the writer but it may be unknown to us. (Sometimes when we don't understand we may not fully believe.)

Anytime folks talk about God emotions run high. Please remember that Jesus is about love and forgiveness. So, when you deal with folks who accuse you of calling God a liar to deal with them with patience-even though they may not offer you the same courtesy. Also know that God designed us to be thoughtful and creative so use these skills that God gave you.

Best of luck in your journey for truth!!

You are correct in not trusting in man. In the case of the Bible however, It is not wise to say "there are some things I will believe and some I won't". Because you are a man as well, you have the same flawed view of any passage you read. This is where the problem lies. What if the thing you don't believe, is something straight from God and not some error. The Bible itself teaches that it is "God Breathed" 2 Tim. 3:15-17. So in essence you put your own flawed human opinion over God's. It's like measuring a straight line with a crooked ruler. I would suggest the next time you are studying a passage, Pray and ask God to guide you personally as to what it is you don't believe about it. Use a good commentary or Bible help books to study what it is that does not seem right to you. You may find that it is a context issue or a cultural issue. God does not push you away because of doubt. He welcomes your questions. Just ask Him. Hope this helps

The bible is 66 book written by forty differnet authors over thousands of year inspired by God.I personally believe that ever word in the Bible was set there by God through his authors.
You must understand that God choose the men to write the books...They were honest and believed strongly in Him.
Back in those day you could be thrown out of a city or killed if you wrote something false about God(with the Jews).
God showed some of the books to people, like John for when he wrote or desriped Revelations.
Also God appointed the prophets to do his perfect Will.

Its good not to have faith in man though because we are sinful by nature...but when man wrote the Bible i was not there words they were Gods. And God cant lie because its against his nature and God knows best always.

Many Christan's would say that because they where told that if part of the bible is false the whole thing is false.Ill give background.

(Gospel)John 1:1a
In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the word WAS God.

So this verse means that God is his Word ,he is bound to it and it to him. So i would say that if you dont believe in the Bible you dont believe in GOD because he is of the Word! So think and pray about this.

It's hard to take a book that was written hundreds if not thousands of years ago seriously. People thought all kinds of things were acceptable, and still, supposedly, the bible is the Word of God, and heaven forbid someone doesn't think every word of it is true. Just ignore the fact that anyone who writes things like this has an agenda, or that *gasp* there could be any mistranslations....

Only Divinity is perfect. Religions and Holy Texts, being written and created by imperfect humans have shortcomings that I won't get into.

All religion is about forming a personal relationship with your Divinity. What is God for you?

The problem is you are putting too much emphasis on how the Bible came into being and not on God. if you believed God and had faith, you would believe his words. Jesus believed in Scripture and constantly quoted them. Is Jesus not a good enough witness for you? Does it offend you that God did not float a golden Bible down to you written right from his hand in your own language? The Bible was created by over 40 authors that believed in God and in many cases experienced him quite directly. Either God has the power to preserve Scripture for you to know and learn or you believe in a very small god.

I cannot speak for your God, but my God is fully capable of having whatever he wishes recorded for us and preserving that document in whatever form he wishes. I believe that my God could change the world's Bibles in a minute if he wished. I also have seen that the way the Bible is worded is beneficial for getting to the heart of the person reading it. I can use any translation/version of the Bible and find the truth. My God is not limited to your's or anyone else's idea of how he can get true information to us. He even says if we will not share this information with others, he will cause the rocks to cry out.

Read John 1:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light." (John 1:1-8)

The Bible is God's Word. In Ephesians 6:10-20 Paul talks about the Armor of God. Note that the Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. The Bible IS the Word of God.

Have you ever had God speak to you? The authors of the Bible walked very closely with God, and they heard him speak. He told them to write, so they wrote. (See John 1 above.) So, yes, it was written by men, but God told them what to write.
If it wasn't from God, it would contradict itself. The Bible does not contradict itself.
I hope that answers your question.

God bless.

The bible was written by men the way a letter is written by a secretary. the boss gives the information that is to be contained in the letter and the secretary writes it in his/her words. If you have faith in God and in Jesus then you should have faith that God chose capable men to write down what He wanted written down. You were the one who said you had faith in God and Jesus. How can you have faith in them if you don't have faith in the Bible and the men who wrote it?

Only Fundamentalists believe in the inerrancy of the Bible.

MOST Christians accept that the Bible might have a few misleading or ignorable parts.
