Are vaccines (DTP vaccine, mumps vaccine, etc.) ever tested on animals?

You can't test vaccines for human diseases on animals, because most diseases are species specific. Most animals don't share our diseases, for instance, monkeys don't get mumps or chicken pox. So no, they aren't. When a vaccine is in development, it is tried on a volunteer population under very controled circumstances.
