Because mankind has a tendency to go astray. If we were all thinkers like Abraham (as) we wouldn't need prophets and messengers, but most people just accept what they are told without question, or are too busy with day to day matters to give morality much thought.

The Word of God says that ........ how will they hear without a preacher. Some people may not have ever read the Bible, the messenger is their primary source of knowledge of God. May God Bless U.

Your's may be different, but in MY opinion it is the only way to keep from choas... to have fear of living in eternal hell.
We also seem to have trouble in just letting things happen we need to know now what to expect tomorrow.
And probably a lot of other reasons too

Because humans need some sort of intermediary between them and the "supreme being," in order to make the "supreme being" more managable.
