I think its a little of both.
We can become addicted to anything psychologically.
Then, there are some foods/drinks that contain things that may contribute to addiction because they stimulate pleasure centers of the brain. "Comfort foods" really do comfort us.

I don't know, but it is so good. . .I know when I am depressed, I chow down, and now I have to take off weight again. Sigh.
I think it is probably both psychological and physiological-caffeine and sugar/carbs both give you an upper, and emotionally it is quite satisfying to eat a comfort food.

Its psycological, induced by the media and the government to profit businesses that are linked to them. I am dead serious. In Asia the main things you see on tv have nothing to do with food, look at them, they are the most populated and yet thinest of all countries. Here in America, you see food and quick weight loss commercials one after the other. What does that say?

Food becomes comfort and rather than turn to people we turn to food because it does not judge us and gives us comfort.
