True Love love that is willing to make a commitment to each other, unmaried couple do not care enough for each other to want to commit to them, and promise faithfulness to each other. if one can't commit then they do not love the other oh yeah they may lust after them but that is not love.Oh and about divorce yes it is high and mostly because of this same thing because people do not truly commitand just see marriage as a piece of paper and that if it doesn't work they can get a divorce those attirudes are not only failure before they start they are also not real commitment but rather non-commital, no marriage without love doesn't work either just as there is no love without comitment, marriage without love is with this attitude that it is just a piece of paper or that if it doesn't work then we can divorce, but those feelings are not always expressed yet they can still be there even so.you can see in yur answers some have only put in monetary benefits, love isn't there that is the problem,if they mary for those reasons then there is no love.

One is married and the other one isn't. What is your question? The one that is married has the security of marriage, and the other one doesn't. Yes, I know that there is a high divorce right. But, you said someone that has been together their entire lives; therefore, that is a secure marriage in my eyes.
I do not understand why someone wouldn't want to get married. If you are willing to date someone that long, why not get married, if in every way other than a piece of paper, you act like it? Marriage is a declaration before everyone that you forsake everyone else and only wish to be with that person and no other person. Nothing in dating has a commitment like that.

The married couple is held together by law, by title, by expectation, by a ring...and all that other good stuff.
While the couple that has been together their entire lives without ever being married are together only because they choose to be.
This love is reinforced and reaffirmed each morning when they wake next to each other knowing that the choice was all theirs.
Beautiful Question...

No announcement to the world or society that they are indeed a couple. No vows, no commitment, no tradition. A missing expression of love. Questionable legalities in turns of ownership and responsibility. Associated problems passed on to children.

There is no difference, if the couple has committed to each other. Marriage ceremonies and legal documents just happen because people don't trust each other. Real marriage is between spouses, not recorded on papers.

When a couple is married, and one passes away, the other one has more rights than they would if they weren't married. They also have more rights to make medical decisions for each other. That's pretty much it.
