Your not hydrated enough. Drink 8-12 glasses of water per day. This will help your muscles by flooding them with water and preventing the spasms. If it continues to occur stretch before physical activity. = )

Are you taking birth control? I ask because about 6 months after I first started taking birth control I would stretch in the middle of the night and get really bad cramps in my legs. I'm not positive about this but I think estrogen causes salt retention which causes muscle cramps. Before I started taking the birth control, my doctor said to make sure to also take a good vitamin everyday and I've noticed that it helps to prevent those muscle cramps. Hope this helps. :)

Simple answer......your muscles arent used to getting such a big workout, and when you havent been working out for a long time, and you suddenly start working out, your muscles arent used to it. The spasms will go away in about a 4 weeks or so, or until your body gets used to working out.

Are the spasms of the "charley-horse" variety? If so, this could be a Potassium shortage (eating bananas helps). But please see a Doctor.

You may be eating too much salt and not drinking enough water. Or you may be not stretching before you exercise. Or you may not be stretching properly.

my health teacher told us that you need to warm-up and strech first, so you get used to doing something. then, when you are done, you need to do a cool-down.
