My son has exema and this is what we do:
1. Give a bath every other day. If you do bathe her every day, only use soap on alternate days.
2. When her skin is still wet, apply Eucerin CREAM, not lotion. Massage it in for a long time, about five minutes.
3. Ask the pediatrician for a steroid cream. You can't put it on her face, but it works everywhere else. I use this on my son when it is really bad, but you can't use it on a daily basis because it thins the skin. That's why most pediatricians will not prescribe them.
Also, we haven't had ANY luck with natural remedies like oatmeal baths or even prescription non-steroidal creams like Elidel or Atopiclair- they are expensive like $100-$200 a tube and NOT worth it.

My daughter had slight exema, like someone said, less baths. Maybe only wash what needs to be washed when you do, and the hotter the water the worse she will dry out. Hopefully she out grows it!! (Also ALL makes a laundry detergent called free & clear with no dyes or fragrances -might help and cheaper than woolite)

hi.
exema is a serious skin problem.changed weather conditions and pollution make it more common these days.unfortunatelly kids suffer that too.
for getting rid of exema , you must work not only on the surface, but also from within .
make sure that your dearest Emma.takes the sufficient daily amount of essential fatty acids with her food.include regular oily fish intake, olive oil and almonds(if she's not allergic to some of those).remember that in most of the cases such skin problems reflect a nutritional disbalance or call it wrong diet.so you cant cure it completely if you don't pay attention to that.
essential for the good condition of skin are all the B vitamins and vitamin E(look for organic cereals, musli, whole grained breads, etc),D vitamin(try the enriched with D dairies),C vitamin(presented in fresh Fruits and juices from them, also in raspberry tea, hibiscus etc).Carrots are especially good to solve skin problems with.look for fresh and organic juices from them.
building up an enriched with all those essential nutrients diet, will improve visibly Emma's condition.combined with all the great methods the others shared in their answers(i would only recommend you to youse creams and lotions rich in olive and almond oils,or the oils themslves, which tend to both nourish and cure extra-dryness of skin.prefer baths with 20-26'C,not hotter, water and towel only with cotton or linen clothes).
she's too young and this will probably be improved with growing up,but lot of care and attention is needed to boost her whole health at once.
wish you success!!!!
p.s i remember, when i worked as au-pair in iceland, where people have pale and very soft skin and the sun shines for a few hours half an year, that all the kids were sipping fatty fish oil every morning with the breakfast.they were so used to it,even loved it.the mother shared that any time she cuts on giving her children the fatty fish oil, they got skin irritations.

try vaseline at night. It is a sealant. Moisturizers usually evaporate.
