Hey all marines hwo read this i need help.

Its always been in my head that i wanna be a marine one day.

ANd now im turning 17 in 2 months and got 1 year of high school ahead so its getting dang close!

I was thinking of mos;s and i rly want to be in recon but i heard its very very hard and they will switch you out of it after 6 monhs or a year if they want to...

SO i need some other mos's to consider if recon doesnt workout.

i origanally just wanted to be a grunt because i want to do some combat type stuff. But now i wanan be a scout sniper or recon, but if i could have a mos that any of you know of that deals with combat and is a mos were i wont just be a grunt.. please let me know! ( i want to go to iraq if you dont catch my drift.. )

i talked to my dad hwos a marine he told me that as a grunt its very boring, and the worst mos to choose because if you dont retire from it you have no skill to carry ou tin life when your term sup. and your at high risk of dying..

See a recruiter. You'll have to take several written test. Based on those scores the recruiter can tell you what mos's you qualify for. All marines start out as riflemen. After boot camp you can work toward a specialty based on your skills and test scores.

Three suggestions.

1. Take the practice ASVAB as soon as possible, so you'll know for which MOS's you qualify. Remember, the practice ASVAB is easier than the real one, so you'll score a bit lower on the actual ASVAB... the practice is a recruitment tool!

2. Take a career guidance class at you local junior college this summer. That will help you learn your own strengths and weaknesses and help you determine a good set of possible careers you might be interested in, long-term. Remember, no matter what, a college degree will help you once you're out of the Corps.

3. Pick an MOS that will train you to do something once your enlistment is up. There is definitely honor in being a Marine, whether you're in the infantry or in a more technical MOS. Just make sure you pick something in which you will be happy and will learn skills you will be able to use afterwards.

Oh... and to what's-her-name who posted above... the Marine Corps will NOT just put you where they want you... they will move you to different duty stations within your career field, but they're not going to just plop you in the infantry... not unless you sign an "open" contract...

Before you even think about being either a scout sniper or recon you must see if you qualify physically for them at usmilitary.about.com. Second you should look at the marine mos's they have to offer at that site and then based on there description (at usmilitary.about.com they give good descritptions and qualifications for mos's) go and talk to a recruiter, but probably not until the last couple of months at the end of your senior year. Until then do a lot of physical training (including swimming if you want recon). Don't let other people talk you in or out of an mos; find out for yourself (websites, books, recruiter) and make a decision based on the research you do and what you feel is right. You sound gung-ho about joining the Marines, like you really want to join (and do it right) so if you do the research yourself you should be fine.

What else are you good at or have an aptitude for. If you get a high score on your intelligence testing you may wish to consider intelligence analyst, or translator. Also, the Corps will figure out what you are good for. So if you can shoot a flea off a tick, you will be a marksman and definitely see some action.

You want to think ahead to what you want to do in life, what do you see yourself doing when you are 30,40,50 etc. Do you want to go career or just for 4 years or so. Being as young as you are make sure you get the GI bill squared away so that you've got your college education covered.

Once through the corps, college will be a breeze, although staying motivated is hard , both are worth it.

hey relax, you have alot of time to join hell I completed 42 college credits before I decided on joining! (soon to join less than two days) and fyi you do need to be smart but not a genius to be a grunt just do what your told (no disrespect but it is more important to be physically fit). The key to being a member of the armed forces is training, read up a little bit train your mind. by the way mos really depends on what do you want? combat? choose infantry, from there you can go force recon.

flow airforce. you like a protracted occupation yet you do no longer want to do something yet infantry you could no longer rather make a existence AFTER the protection rigidity from that. They airforce has the main suitable reward. i might pay attention to you dad. The marines is problematical as ****. the army is 2nd. Im going military maximum appropriate now. And asvab has no longer something to do including your training its flair. It has mechanics and development stuff and electrical energy and those are issues college would not prepare. evaluate airforce. heavily. you will experience sorry approximately being a grunt interior the army

well i am almost sure the USMC works like the Navy. Do well on your ASVAB and you will have choices. my husband did very well on his and got options. he chose to be a AM aircraft structural mechanic. he loves his job. he has spent more of his time on marine bases.
good luck email me if you have any questions i can pass them on to my husband

If you really want choices about what you do in the military, why don't you go Army?

You don't get any job choices in the Marines. You'll be whatever they tell you.

Artillery, there's some computer stuff involved. Don't worry you'll get you're chance to kill someone no matter what you choose.
