I think that forcing a child into any religious commitment before they're of an age where they can decide for themselves is unhealthy and can lead to emotional problems and hangups in adulthood. Also, forcing kids can often backfire. Many people leave the religion they were brought up in as children once they're adults. In a nutshell - it's not wise.

I believe childhood is the time that examples are needed to instill character. However, I also believe that any instruction on spirituality should enter "behind the ear" rather from "in your face". Often parents who push morality on their kids live different lives themselves. Teaching by example produces much better results.

No Christian I know of uses force. Kids ultimately have the choice on whether they want to follow Jesus or not just like the rest of us. But we are accountable to God as parents to teach our kids about the Lord.

Not a good thing. No one should push anyone into believing any type of religious belief. That starts to smell like a cult to me!
