In light of global warming, national energy security and peak oil and the extreme gas guzzling of SUVs, should we ban them and melt them down to make gas efficient hybrids?

Not all SUV's are gas guzzling and hybrids aren't very environmentally friendly.
Some smaller SUV's are far better than American sedans, cars like the Subaru Forester or Suzuki Vitara, or even the Toyota Prado turbo diesel.
The most environmentally friendly vehicles are turbo diesel cars, most of which come from Europe. These will become even more environmentally friendly as the water injection techniques which markedly reduce NOx emissions become more widely available.
Hybrid cars don't have nearly as good economy as European turbo diesel cars and as well the lifetime emissions are far greater when batteries are taken into account.

Banning anything dose not work. We need to change them so they are not gas hogs and it can be done. You seem to forget that we live in the USA. That means right or wrong we have rights. Why not ask why did the government not do something back in the 70's. I will tell you a story of why they had the ability to produced a gas efficient car back then. I man I knew bought a new Ford Town car. Big V8 they got 8 miles to the gallon. He then retired and went on his dream trip driving all over the US. A week after he left there was a guy from Ford looking for him. They set in front of his house and had a guy setting in the bar waiting for him. He called me when he got back and told me when he got home the guy from Ford and one from the government came to his home and offered him 3 times what he paid for his new car. He would also get a new car for free every year. seems the car he had had a new kind of carb. in it and it allowed the car, a big V8 to get 56 miles to the gallon. He was told and made to sign a paper saying he would not go public with this information because they could not put it in production for it would hurt the economy. Only would have hurt the oil biz

No, absolutely not. There are worse things in this country to deal with and the worst one is misinformation handed down to the younger people who don't have the experience background to know what is, or is not right.

NO. Dude, don't tell me that you don't like SUVs? They are cool, but waste a lot of gasoline. What "we" should do is change their engines to run on solar power or electricity, not melt them.

No. They should drill for oil in Alaska and the Gulf. They should drill for oil EVERYWHERE in the U.S.

Global warming is a liberal myth.
