Catholicism. (Sadly, some people still believe the myths about the "Dark Ages", as I can see from some of the responses.)

This concept of a "Dark Age" was created by the Italian scholar Francesco Petrarca.
Just as Petrarch's writing was not an attack on Christianity per se—in addition to his humanism he was deeply occupied with the search for God—neither of course was this an attack on Christianity, but the opposite: a drive to restore what Protestants saw as a "purer" Christianity. In response to these attacks Roman Catholic reformers developed a counter image, depicting the age as a period of social and religious harmony, and not "dark" at all .

Catholisism (NOTE THAT I DID NOT SAY CHRISTIANITY). Atheist try to point to the dark ages for why Christianity is bad but if they werent so lazy they would quickly pick up that the dark ages were the only time that the bible was kept away from the people and only priest were allowed to say what was in it. When people do not have God's word then the world goes dark with ignorance

The Dark Ages in Europe lasted for 1000 years and God sent no messiah to save the people. You cannot say it was Catholisicm only, because then God would have provided an alternative. IT WAS CHRISTIANITY!

Catholic religion was widely spread through countries along with the teaching of Muhammed (Muslim), Judaism, and Zoroastrianism one of the oldest religions.
