Ok, I don't know if this is a stupid question but I am gonna go ahead and ask anyway...Is there any difference between fresh bread and toasted bread? The reason I ask if because I have noticed that when i eat a fresh bread right out of the bag, I tend to feel really bloated and full and have a stomach ache but it never happens when I eat toast, it feels a lot lighter on my stomach...Is this just a wierd coincidence or is there an explanation for this?!?! ps. usually I just have peanut butter and jelly on either the bread or the toast, so I doubt its whats going on the bread thats hurting my stomach.

Soft bread (untoasted) can be squished and made denser. Toast is crisper and can't be condensed (you can't make a "doughball" with toast). I think you should see a doctor if bread is upsetting your stomach though, since there really isn't much in it that should cause digestive trouble.

The reason why toast is lighter is because it's cooked more i guess you could say.For fresh bread likely would ball up into the pit of your stomach waiting for liquids to digest it. Not sure if that's the right way to explain it but from my almost choking experience I'm saying it balled up and i didn't have enough liquid to swallow it and it will catch in your throat causing you to choke.Maybe this is what's going on in your stomach. And alot of people are allergic to yeast causing upset stomach. check with your doctor maybe he'll send you for an allergy test. Good Luck.

Bubbles. Bubbles in fresh bread is what makes you feel a little bloated. When chewed many of the bubbles are compacted but still there. Toast also dries the moisture that's holding the bubbles in.
I prefer toast most of the time - except for sour dough bread when I eat and compact all those delicious bubbles!

Indeed toast is lighter than regular bread. The reason is because the water molecules in the toast evaporate, causing to be much more light. It makes you more full because there is more water. As for the stomach ache, the water could probably just be contaminated

Toast vs. regular bread. Hmm. I say regular bread by knockout in the 8th round.
