Do you mean the highest grading scale a nurse can reach whilst working in the ward?

If this is what you meant, grading scales' been changed a few years ago with the introduction of Agenda for Change which categorises employees through Banding (which goes up to 8)instead of Grades (from A - H) although since people are so used to the Grades system, people still, in a way, use them or refer to their comrades that way.

I think most Ward Sisters are either F or G's and are now being categorised and paid as Band 7 - 8.

um, without your question being more specific I would say Senior Charge Nurse or Nurse Manager/Ward Manager, Modern Matron. Depends on the Trust and how they work.
