I've never been Sikh, but I've been Christian and Muslim.

I was born and raised in a Catholic family. I fell away from the religion when I went away to college. I tried to read the Bible 5 years later, but got disgusted with the way it describes "God's chosen people". Eventually, after a little bit of study of different belief systems, I came back to Christianity in spite of its flaws, because I concluded that I couldn't be wiser than all who had been before me.

One day during a worship service, the pastor made a hateful comment about Islam and Muslims, and I knew it was false. I wanted to talk with the pastor about it, but since he was a very knowledgeable man, I needed to study first, so I obtained a translation of the Quran. Upon reading the Quran, I felt that there was no alternative but to declare that I believe that there is only one God, and Mohammed (as) is his messenger - so that is how I became Muslim.

Edit: What do the churches/mosques/centers do? Well, churches sponsor events and hand out food to the poor. I think in some countries mosques do the same, but not much in the US. I don't think there is much recruiting. Most people make the decisions for themselves.

Well i can only answer for Islam as i am a Muslim I am not qualified to answer for the others. I became a Muslim just over 2 years ago and it was because i read the Quran and had discussions about issues and subjects with one Muslim in particular. No one recruited me, no one came to me preaching the words of Allah. Simply after reading the Quran i knew i had found the true path and that Allah had opened my heart to Islam. Once i realized this I made the decision to become a Muslim. And for any other Muslim reverts i know it was basically the same. By coming to Islam of our own accord. Islam is a religion which you come to on your own a decision make after studying and reading the Quran, that's it.
Once the decision was made a friend introduced me to a local Imam I had two witnesses and said my Shahada from that moment on i became a Muslim.

Yes, speaking for Islam, each year thousands of people worldwide, but more in Europe and America convert to Islam.

In Islam, You go to a masjid (Mosque) [a "church" for Muslims]and talk to someone and tell them you want to become Muslim. You say, "I bear witness that there is no god but God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God ." That is called declaration of faith, then your journey between you and God begins. PS: Most people convert to Islam after reading the Quran, the Quran is the guidance for Islam, so to practice Islam you need a Quran. here is one on the web. Find a masjid that is mixed with different races, those are the most guided. The people are friendly and are used to visits they will welcome you.
