Spirituality is higher than religion. They are often mingled and misunderstood. You can have religious spirituality and non-religious spirituality. Most people have the second, and you don't need to believe in god(s) to be spiritual. You can achieve spirituality with anything that lifts you up, such as a child, a poem, a song, a good swim, a walk, a bird, a gold-fish, and so on.

Religion is subdivided intro three dimension: intrinsic, extrinsic and quest. The first two are static, the last is what makes people look for significance in life. Spirituality is interactive, and you can find it vertically, or from yourself to a higher being; and horizontally, which is within everything that surround you, such as you neighbour, the nature, the buildings, the world.

Spirituality definately comes first. Spirituality is what's inside us, religion is something we invent to try and make sense of it.
