Examine when/why he is eating. Maybe his routine isn't set and he eats when he's bored. My 4 year old nephew used to want to eat every time he had the opportunity to watch a dvd or play Pajama Sam on the computer. It had something to do with the screen time. Make sure that he has his breakfast, a snack in the morning, lunch, an afternoon snack, dinner, and a snack an hour or two before bed and he should have more than enough food. Make sure that what he's eating is high in fiber and low in sugar. Proteins keep kids more full for longer-give him some deli turkey, cheese, and whole wheat crackers for a snack or give him hummus and pretzels. Good luck with your nephew!

He just has an extremely high metabolism rate, however, his parents do need to trim down his eating times before he begins developing some really bad eating behaviors.

My kids go thru spurts of eating everything or eating almost nothing and my children are very healthy, not overweight or underweight what so ever. I noticed that four is one of those ages, for my kids but for other kids it could be any age. It's probably normal.

My three year old is the same way. He is also skinny but he is very active. I asked my doctor and he told me that when a toddler is so active their metabolism is higher. Ask your doctor.
