Oh boy, get ready. Here they come again. They'll tell you they need to "keep an eye on us" so we don't legislate them to their doom. They'll tell you they have the right to give their own opinions (which of course they do). They'll tell you they're interested in observing us backward religious types as a scholarly exercise. None of which REALLY explains: why do they come back, day after day, devoting themselves almost exclusively to this one category, answering questions that are specifically addressed to other groups, inserting mockery and insult while us "religious" folks are simply trying to share ideas? Methinks they protest too much. Some of them are degrading what they don't understand; some are spiteful and envious; SOME are actually seeking and will find what they are looking for.

If you took the trouble to look at the list on the left you would see that the topic is Society and Culture. Religion and Spirituality is a subset of this. I am interested in many of the topics in this area so I stay in Society and Culture rather than limiting myself. Consequently the Religion and Spirituality questions come up in view and some of them are worth answering.
I am not hanging around Religion and Spirituality, that is just part of the bigger picture.

I don't really hang around this area too much, or at least I try not to. Despite being atheist I have a strong interest in religions and various spiritualities and I like to learn about other people's beliefs. Religion has a lot of influence in the world around us, sometimes bad and sometimes good. I'm not here to judge or criticize anyone on believing in a higher being (unless you're like that one girl who was like GOD HATES GAY PEOPLE earlier, then it's not only going to be me who's criticizing.) and I certainly hope no one's here to judge me either.

Just because I don't believe in God doesn't mean that I don't have anything to say about religion. Unless, of course, there was a rule that atheists can't share opinions about religion because they don't believe in a higher power. But that wouldn't really be fair now, would it?
Also, atheism does not mean that someone doesn't believe in the afterlife. Buddhists don't have a god, but they do believe that there is an afterlife of a sort. So, atheists can agree with the existence of souls, therefore making them able to argue both sides of the soul argument (some believe in souls, and some don't).

the soul is the life that binds all of us with God; in some, it is nurtured and grows, sight unseen; with others who question, it still is there; only God at the time of his choosing can shut down that life force that unites us to him; many a person has changed beyond what anyone could imagine b/c they allowed that spark, that ember to grow ; they allowed God in to multiply within them that life force; so you ask why, b/c our creator created everyone , even atheists, it is that gift of choice that they are exercising , either way; and the opportunity to know that no matter what , it is always there for you , just say the WORD. The word of God is powerful. It is a good feeling when you find him and you know that joy in heart each day ; give someone a break to search out that small portion of them that may be looking but doesn't realize exactly why.

Well, I'm on here because I'm looking for answers. I don't believe in God, but I don't think that I know everything about spirituality and religion. I think that most people who are atheists are on here because they cannot accept the religious answers that are given to them, so they must find their own.

Spirituality has nothing to do with a god or with religion. I like to refer to myself as a spiritual atheist. Spiritual in the sense that I seek my own path in life and draw from my life experiences. Also this is an open forum for anyone to ask and answer questions. It's not just for theists and believers of the many gods that are being worshipped.

I learn a lot from other Atheist (about evolution & sci), as well as hear about current events (from everybody).
I also enjoy debating the bible, sometimes over what the text means and sometimes to debunk it.
Like, I believe the snake in the garden was never meant to be thought of as Satan. --Things like that.

Its not about discussions between people WITH religion and spirituality. Its ABOUT religion and spirituality.....therefore everyone comes here to express, discuss, and debate their particular religion or lack thereof.
