Chile is in the southern hemisphere so the seasons are opposite from the US. That is to say, it is summer in the US when it is winter in Chile and Vice-versa. Hence, you would have snow in Chile in July, not in January. Best way to do it is to stay in Santiago and take tours to Valle Nevado (about 2 hrs. drive from Santiago) Take something for motion sickness if you are prone to it, as the road to Valle Nevado is full of very sharp turns.

Good luck trying to ski in Chile in January ... it's the middle of summer and I seriously doubt you'd find any good snow!
