ARTICLE 11.
As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,-as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen,-and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

John Adams also said that the constitution of the United States of America could not work with anything other than a Christian nation for, in effect, the people must actually govern themselves. No amount of legislation can teach morales or ethics.

No, I wouldn't say the US was founded as a Christian nation.
I will say that the founders of this country used an awful lot of Christian tenets and beliefs to form the Constitution and so on.
But we're definitely NOT designated a Christian nation. We can't be according to the First Amendment.

No, it was funded as secular country. People often say it was founded by Christians, and even if that were true (it's not, some were, some weren't) , it is 100% irrelevant. The all agreed to freedom of religion, for everyone, not just those who believed what they did.

Many of the people that came to the colonies left Europe because there were under pressure from the the chruch. In fact, those like George Washington is said to not have had a religion, and were in fact pagans. I suggest you research this yourself.

"God is an essence that we know nothing of. Until this awful blasphemy is got rid of, there never will be any liberal science in the world."
--John Adams 2nd US President
"I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition (Christianity) one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology."
--Thomas Jefferson 3rd US President
They really don't seem like traditional Christians to me.

You read something I didn't. The quote from the treaty didn't say AMerica was secular, it said it wasn't founded on the CHristian religion. It was founded on a religious belief though, namely that there is a Creator who gives men rights which no man can take from them. "It is self evident that all men are CREATED equal and are endowed by their CREATOR with certain inalienable rights." To deny a creator is to deny the basic foundation of the AMerican belief in Rights, and to lower rights from divinely bestowed laws to conveniences constructed by society, which then has the ability to reconstruct them or take them away.

How about that 'thou shalt not kill'? If this was a 'christian' nation, it wouldn't have been formed by violence against others over who rules when the lives of their loved ones were not at risk. We won't even get into the countless murders of the original inhabitants either.
