Don't try to wake your child. If he'll let you, gently guide him back to bed. Your child will have no memory of the event the next morning, so don't bring it up. Talking about it may make your toddler scared of bedtime.

Before tucking him in for the night, be sure to pick up any toys or other objects that he could fall over during a middle-of-the-night walkabout, and put a stairgate at the top of the stairs.

Most injuries to sleepwalking children happen when they fall out of a window or manage to get outside, so keep windows and doors locked, too.

Don't. Most children grow out of sleepwalking. I did and my children have as well. There really nothing to "combat" about this, unless they are still doing past the age of eight or nine. Then seek some help.

You might want to put a baby gate in his doorway or at the end of the hall/top of the stairs so he doesn't hurt himself. Make sure that everything is picked up so he doesn't trip and get hurt. I have heard of kids leaving the house, so make sure that your doors are locked. If he knows how to unlock them when he's awake or open them, get a latch near the top of the door and make sure it's locked before you go to bed to make sure that your son is safe.

You should consult a doc. But don't wake him you might scare him just try to gently guide him back to bed. Make sure he can't run away or jump out of a window or anyhting dangerous.
