Well, to be honest, I think that it creates a division in society, and the world in general. Whenever part of your belief is that all others are wrong, you aren't going to be very tolerant towards other peoples ideas, including scientific ones. It becomes much easier to find comfort in what you believe than to search out hard truth.

A waste of time and energy, frequently money, and sometimes human life. It is an avoidance of doing the necessary thinking to understand how the world actually works.
Postscript: Re Dinkerson's comments on religion having killed, that was true up until World War I, but is no longer true. The top of the butcher's bill now belongs to Karl Marx, for whose erroneous beliefs tens of millions have died. With that, and a cost that has run into the trillions of dollars and is still rising, Marx's error is by far the most expensive blunder in all of human history.

Religion is man-made and the books haven't been greatly updated in thousands of years. Slavery, intolerance, all kinds of things are looked upon as not a problem in many of these books. A truly loving God would not have these things in It's books, and everyone says God is Love.

Religion is about forming a personal relationship with Divinity (whatever name your religion gives It). Divinity is perfect, and we are not. How can humans (imperfect) effectively create something to give praise to Divinity (perfect) and then claim that their way is the Only Way?

While there is nothing wrong with religion itself, it is used too much as a way of controlling and brainwashing the populace, something Divinity would never do.

The problem is not the religion its the believing. You have a brain use it because believing is the absence of though or information. G Bush believed there where WMD in Iraq if you want to promote that kind of stupidity go for it.

What do you mean by believing in a religion?

I find a lot of wisdom in Buddhist teachings and meditation practice has helped me in several concrete practical ways, including how to avoid arguments with my father. I also find a lot of wisdom in Jewish teachings; a four thousand year long debate on how best to live ethically definitely has something worth sharing.

Community is important, especially a community that is concerned with how to treat each other with dignity, respect and compassion. Religions can provide such communities. Unfortunately, very few truly do.

There is nothing wrong with having a religion and believing in God (which is different from believing in a religion) as long as the person is thoughtful and doesn't discriminate against (or condemn) others because of his religion..

Studies actually show that in general --spriitual people live happier lives.

There is nothing wrong with believing in a religion. The problem is that people tend to lose their logical thought and common sense when they become involved in a religion.

They are outdated and have become obsolete. Look around. Religion is the only invention we still have from thousands of years ago.

They were invented as an excuse for things that occured in nature due to the lack of knowledge of these subjects. Now that we know more about the Earth, we shouldn't need them anymore.

Not one thing is wrong with it. Everyone is entitled to a opinion, and they can believe whatever they want. Whether some people on here, like it or not.
