who long do you think a person will get if they did a group robbery no gun and this is this first time getting in in trouble with the law and all they got was a lop top witch was returned

It doesn't matter if the only thing that was taken was eventually returned. That really has no bearing on the sentence imposed. The fact that it was not an armed robbery will help shorten the sentence but if it was a bunch of young hoodlums the judge might give them a stiffer penalty to teach them a lesson.

If they used ANY force at all it could still be considered robbery. Simply saying "give me the lap top or I will kick your azz" is good enough for using force. If they took it without the victim knowing it is a larceny. Either way I would be a little concerned about doing time.

Everybody in the "group" gets charged with robbery. Since the property was recovered and no one was injured AND this is a first offence; your buddy might get off with probation.

It would depend upon the age of the person (juvenile sentencing is different from adult sentencing usually), and the jurisdiction where the crime is being tried (state, county or city).

could go to a juvy center for a couple of weeks, 6months of house arrest, probation, and maybe counseling and writting an appology letter
