My dog does the same thing! I think its too funny.
I talked to my vet about it though, and he said it was from poor breeding. (we got him from a petstore, i know but i was little and didnt know).
It has to be the cutest thing. Sometimes my dog will get up and walk into the kitchen, and then come STORMING out and running around jumping on the couches and just acting completely crazy.
It doesnt bother me, I get a good laugh!
LOL

It is like our own children, they get spirts of energy and wear themselves out.
Provide a larger variety of things to play with or do. Put a tennis ball in a knee sock and tie a knot at the end. Dogs love 'em. I had a Great Dane that would drag a car tire around the yard by a rope with a big knot at the end. I have a 14 month German Sheppard that loves a regular plastic bucket. She destroys 'em pretty fast so I have had to replace it several times. (no she doesn't swallow the chunks she tears off).
Give her something to focus her energy on. Just watching them play is a joy to me. They do some funny little things that make you smile, giggle or down right LOL.

Well dogs can have pent up energy just like humans...and needless to say, dogs have a lot more energy to begin with, so it makes sense that she would run around like an idiot every once in awhile. Regardless of how good of a house dog she is normally, all animals are meant to roam free outside, it's in their nature. Houses, apartments, pens, etc...those just aren't their natural habitats.
I have a terrier and any variation of this breed is going to have a ton of energy. We live in a small, one bedroom apartment so he does the same thing as your dog from time to time. LoL It is funny how he can sleep and laze around for hours and then he's off like a shot, doing laps in our whole 15 square feet of space. Dogs will be dogs.
If it bothers you, take her for long walks, play with her a lot...try to wear her out so she doesn't go nuts so often. =)

Dogs need exercise and playful time...my dog does the same thing when he is happy and just glad to have me home...the behavior is quite natural and normal. Hey did you ever have cats? We had a mom and her youngins who after we went to bed they played tag and ran all over the house playing and hiding.
Its there way of being happy with their life....dont you ever get just plain silly?

You probabley need to take the dog for a walk. Being couped up in the house is not good for the dog. Take it to the park and let it play.

My Yorkie does the same thing. But it's usually when he gets a little wet such as when I have to wash off his feet in the sink. That makes him go nuts!

maybe your dog just has a lot of energy built up in its body and what you could do is wlak it for 45 minutes and run with him or her a lot to get rid if that energy for a while.
