No, I think it's counter-productive; that it doesn't serve much of a purpose, except maybe the teacher's jealous because you get more vacation time. Homework over vacation is that stupid thing that will hang over your head the whole time you're on vacation, and then you do it at the last minute. What have you learned? How to divide diddly by squat. Better to have an engaging teacher in the classroom that makes you want to learn than somebody heaping work on you that you have to do on your own. Homework should only be assigned if there is class the following day.

Man, I wish I was back in high school or even college some days and have complaints as simple as this. I am in fact a teacher, a Kindergarten teacher. I don't assign homework over breaks, but I had plenty of homework assigned to me over breaks when I was a kid. I also am tired of people saying teacher's have it so easy because we don't work weekends and have summers off. My summers are full of classes and teaching summer school. My weekends are spent either at home working on school work or at school doing work.

To me it's a sign that the teacher is not doing their job during school hours. I think it's very unfair.

First off, who cares if it's fair. Life's not, so why should your high school days be any different. Welcome to life, pansy butt. People have to take home work all the time from their jobs, so why should school be any different? The purpose of school is to prepare you for the real world, so it seems to me that it's almost required for you to have work over the holiday.
