Yes, if you are both committed to it.

I am getting married in three weeks to a woman who lives 900 miles away. We met online. Due to her circumstances, she won't actually be moving here for another 2 months after the wedding.

Our primary commitment is to COMMUNICATION. We have literally spoken or e-mailed at least once a day, every day, for the last two years. If you are going to give this person the same regard as an e-mail buddy, stop right now. An e-mail buddy won't mind if you take a day or two to respond. Your partner will.

We are also committed to romance. I send her romantic cards in the mail, or flowers "just because." She sends me e-cards and, every once in a while, writes love letters.

We're committed to spending time physically together. This requires budgeting and planning, though. After our first meeting, the longest we went without seeing each other was about eight weeks.

And we're committed to praying for each other, which is an important part of any relationship, but in its own way, brings people together no matter what the distance.

Yes it can, and my husband and I are proof. So, those who say it "NEVER" works, well, you're wrong! We had only been dating for about 4 months, and he graduated from college and moved back to his hometown, 6 hours away. We were apart from January, until I moved in with him at the end of that July. We drove to see each other once a month, tops. We talked on the phone frequently, and talked online every night. We have been happily married for 3 years now, and have two beautiful children. As many others have said, communication is absolutely the key. I think if either of you are particularly jealous people, it probably won't work. It's not easy, but if you truly love and TRUST the person, what is meant to be will be.

A lot of people say no, but I say it can. Why? I've done it before. I was good friends with this guy. He lived out east, and I'm form the midwest. We would talk on instant messenger everyday, and call each other at least three times a week and talk for hours. We grew really close. Then, it turns out, we went to the same school, but never saw each other. We have been dating ever since. If you really want it to work, then it will...Just remember that there is someone else on the other end who may be as committing as you.

Sure it can work, but it will take both of the people to make it work. I have a very good relation with someone and we talk almost everyday on IM and the phone, both of us get along great. And now we are making plans to meet in person, but you have to understand that all relations will have their up and downs, but a little talking and understanding each other will do the trick.

The key to making any relationship work is communication and trust. Both of you have to make an extra effort along both these lines, for a long distance relationship to work. But it can be successful if you both try.

It can only if both parties are truly honest about their lives. What does that person mean to you, and if they mean much, then be distant friends why commit to such a serious commitment when temptation lyes in between.

If the friendship last through the trying times, then upgrade to a commitment now you two know for certain how serious you are, otherwise remain friends you don't need the headache of " where were you last night, or how come you didn't answer...."

Best wishes

It probably will not work out because you two will never see each other to create a stable relationship and be able to continue your relationship. Staying your distance from your partner is only good if you are on a business trip or if you and your date wanna see if you really miss one another.
