so, some of you believe that science is actually more true than christianity?

1000 years ago, earth was the center of the universe.
500 years ago, earth was flat.
100 years ago, giant squids were myths.

but the worst thing that science has ever talied about, is the big bang. that makes soooo much more sense than christianity.

Everyone has faith. Faith is a built-in neurological response in the human brain. Without faith, it would be impossible to make decisions on a daily basis. Plans would be unimaginable.

The difficulty you're having is that you consider faith in God (It's a proper noun, by the way) the only faith that is real. This is a common assumption by "believers."

Belief in God is the ground of your being, and the notion of being without God in probably inconceivable to you. However, there are people who do not believe as you do.

Just by way of experiment, think about this question: Are you always careful to put out cookies and milk for Santa?

What is wrong with the basic assumption in that sentence?

Is it the cookies and milk?

Or is it Santa?

Bear in mind that there was probably a time at which you could not conceive of Christmas without Santa, and now, if you've reached a certain maturity, you no long believe.

Does that lack of a belief in Santa hinder you? Are you less able to function?

That's the way atheists are about God. They don't believe and they don't feel any lack by not believing.

Ok first you CAN livea normal life without religion. Second there was a philosopher i believe by the name of Socrates who said the earth was round but THE CHURCH threatened and possibly killed him for saying so. The Big Bang... yeah it is a stretch. Using science theories and proven facts to describe the creation of the universe is crazy isn't it. I mean someone saying "exist" and it becomes real is really believable. Other:

Flooding the whole world. There are two rivers that rarely but do get flooded in the area that it is talking about so there's Noah's flood.

I have never been one to invest in "blind faith". I see no reason to believe in God. I hear about "free will" all the time, but I can't believe that a compassionate loving "father"/creator would stand idly by and allow innocents to suffer horribly for the behaviour of others. I think mankind is all there is and there are just some things that we just don't have the technology or knowledge to explain. I believe we are all part of the universe and that when we die, our "imprint"/conscious is either reborn or extinguished and we become one with everything again. I like knowing "I" am responsible for what I do and that I should be a kind , compassionate and loving person for the sake of it and not just to make it to "Heaven" to be with some mystical being. BTW I am an Ex-Catholic who converted to Buddhism.
EDIT: Why do I get up in the morning , what do I have to live for? If you spend your life living for "God", when do YOU really live? How can you be in the present moment enjoying life if you spend it worrying about sins from the past or about appeasing an omnipotent being for a future life in "Heaven"? LIFE, FAMILY, AIR, WATER, SUN, BEING, there are sooo many reasons to live, just open your mind and enjoy it!

First, define "god". You seem to be so sure that there is one, but your concept of god is probably incompatible with the concept of god that other religions have, and followers of these other religions are just as convinced that they are right as you are.

The three monotheistic faiths (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) are all based on the Hebrew Bible. I personally think it is pretty obvious that the Hebrew Bible is just the mythology of the ancient Hebrews, and is no more worthy of belief that the Greek pantheon that is now widely accepted as myth. You don't believe in Zeus, do you? Well, I think that Yahweh is no more believable than Zeus. And in fact, if Yahweh was real, he would not be worthy of worship. That character was cruel and capricious. I don't understand how any Bible believer can call Yahweh a god of love.

Wow, you think there is no reason to live without belief in god? That seems so pathetic to me. There is much reason to live. I wake up eager every day to see my daughter's smile, and that is just one reason why I love life. If anything, I love life MORE now that I am free of the delusion I was raised with.

My favourite part of your argument "but the worst thing that science has ever talied about, is the big bang. that makes soooo much more sense than christianity."

Attacking science just shows your fear that your beliefs are misplaced.

Millions of years of evolution and natural selection is the reason why the world is ostensibly so 'designed'. It is also quite clear that evolution is not guided by any supernatural force. That is the reason why I don't believe in the Christian God, at least.

Furthermore, at least evolution can explain the existence of parasites, etc.

Same reason Christians don't believe in Thor. There is no evidence. Plus physics tells us reality obeys mathematical laws, not the whims of a threatening god.

There is no reason to believe in any god. It's that simple.

Basically, there is a lot of evidence that gods are man-made. You only have to look into the histories of each god to see that. Also there is evidence in human psychology that shows that people tend to make up stuff that isn't true.

And the evidence that gods exist? Just some old books written by superstitious people. It's just not convincing to me.

I think the question of whether God exists is irrelevant, really. Atheism is a reactionary stance against religious believers, such as yourself; it betrays an implicit feeling about God, albeit a hostile one, that suggests a certain emotional vulnerability to religious belief. In other words, if I say "I do not believe in God" this does not necessarily characterize my intuitive feelings or emotional response to the subject. To me the opposite of religious belief is indifference, not disbelief. I give God a big "eh" and a shrug of my shoulders, and a casual walk away. As Sartre said, even if God existed, it wouldn't change a thing, as man is still condemned to be free.

How can you believe in God? Simple as that. It's a personal choice. Lay off the people who don't believe the same thing you do. It's called religious tolerance. It doesn't mean that you have to convert or accept their beliefs, just allow them to express their opinions just as you express yours.
